Hair is dead cells, basically, but it's not like part of your scalp dies when it grows. It pretty much just comes in that way. What, you want his hair to come to life?

no he was just saying it's weird he has any dead cells at all... he regenerates fast enough to seal up bullet holes on the fly... never looks any older... is immune to all poisons... would his skin and blood cells still be dying?
Ok, gonna get GEEK for a moment...
Wolverine's healing factor means that he has rapid regeneration of cells and tissues. At the same time, it slows his aging.... wouldn't that mean things like body hair/hair (which are just dead cells if I am not mistaken) be nearly impossible?![]()

Well, while there is a chance that mutation can be in some way beneficial, it's a small chance. More than likely you're just going to end up with cancer. at any rate... you sure as hell aren't going to develop the ability to walk through walls or lift tanks over your head. I was just saying that MASSIVE was perhaps taking this a little seriously. =)
Don't you worry there, Gillette, you're still one of our favorite comic book fanatics geeks here,(Looks like me & a couple others here have some competition):wink:Agreed, beneficial mutations are very rare occurance but they do happen as evidenced by evolution (should one subscribe to such a veiw). Most mutations hinder the organisms ability to survive to sexual maturity if not aborted in the womb. Cancer, from my limited understanding, is occurs from the corruption of a single cell which then regenerates faster than the healthy cells around it. I think if cancer were genetically encoded, the zygote would be entirely cancerous and not be carried to term, or if somehow a beneficial trait would not become a heath issue for the adult. Think about how hard cancer is to kill.
Some mutations are neutral to survival and are just a visual oddity, an ear out of place is possible.
My father was born with a sixth finger on one hand, but sadly it was removed at birth so the world never knew if it offered any special abilities. Could have made him the worlds greatest pianist.
Oh, crap, looks like I'm going to wear my pocket protector today with my best plaid shirt. NIC, if we can't take comics seriously what can we?
I'll geek your geek, is this conversation really happening on LPSG?
Because he has a healing factor he is able to heal damage quickly, which is not the same as being impervious to the damage to begin with. Burns bullets, radiation, poisons would still do the damage they are intended to do but because his system is constantly regenerating at such a heightened rate the damaged cells were likely near the end of their cycle anyway and being replaced by new ones.
My theory on hair stems from two things.
First, I postulate that if his cells regenerate at such a speed, it might also follow that they die at a similarly fast rate (otherwise he'd double in size pretty frequently) in which case his hair and nail growth would be impressively quick. Good thing he's got those go anywhere trimmers. *SNIKT*
Second, I like fur so it suits my fantasy life to believe that my favorite furball will always be furred. Okay, Bub?
I know we've all heard the joke before but this thread reminded me:
Superman was kinda bored so he just started flying around looking for something to do. He's flying over Wonder Woman's house and sees her bedroom window is open. He stops for a glimpse and sees her lying on her bed naked. She's lying there and squirming around looking real hot.
Superman was getting turned on looking at her so he decides what the hell, I can just fly in real quick, give her the ole' in-out and be out of there before she even knows what hit her. After all he is Superman. So, in he goes, wham-bam and he's out of there.
Wonder Woman knew something happened and says, "What was that?" The Invisible Man says, "I don't know but, damn, is my ass sore."
Not necessarily. The Xmen are genetic mutants. The potential exists that a parent could have been irradiated, but the mutants themselves are born with the altered gene.
* on a side issue, I'll bet Wolvie doesn't shave his pubes.

Actually in the first movie, they explain that it's sort of like gender. The father's chromosome determines if the child will be a mutant or a human. How exactly that works, I don't know though. Seems to me like it was something thrown in the script without any thought. But still, suffice it to say that it's genetic, nothing to do with radiation exposure.
If this were true then he shouldn't be bald, but he should look like Cousin It from the Addams Family.
Well in the cartoon series they say the opposite. Albeit, not a sudden burst of radiation like Hulk or the Fantastic Four... but ambient radiation all over the world triggering these genetic mutations. Beast said something about this in one of the first episodes.
and in the original comic book I'm sure they probably just didn't think about it.
SEx with gambit would be dangerous as the condom would likely explode!!!
I noticed a body builder with his massive muscles and sculpted body had a tiny dick? Go figure. It got me thinking what the dicks of super heroes would be like?
Ah, touche then. I forgot about that in the original series.
Although that begs another question. That being the case, more enhanced mutants would come with each generation, what with the accumulation of radiation. How is it then, that one of the most powerful ones in existence was born 5000 years ago? Seems a bit contradictory to me
