BULLSHIT. I registered and went in with my voter registration card excited to pop my voting cherry and I wasn't in the books so I couldn't vote. Fuckers.

Well that is just massively fucked up, Skull. And I'm pretty sure it's illegal. I think you have a case if you want to raise a stink about it.

There were 2 people in front of me at my polling station this morning who weren't on the books but had ID that indicated they were registered. They were given the option of either voting at their old polling place or having their vote recorded at this location and cross-checked with the other precinct once the polls close. That seemed pretty reasonable to me.

But not letting you vote just because you're not on the books - especially being a first time voter - that's fucked up.

You still can vote if you want to. You can go back to your polling place with identification and request a "provisional ballot". They are intended for exactly this kind of screw up. You have a right to a provisional ballot. If the polling place gives you ANY trouble, I would suggest you call your candidate of choice campaign, and tell them what happened. They'll make sure you get to vote.

It's sad because this is the kinda BS that prevents people from voting today. Younger votes at least. Go back and get the provisional.

Back in 04' was the first time I was able to vote in a presidential election. I missed 00' by a few months.

Anyway, I had a similar problem. I went to the voting precinct on my voter registration card but they still didn't have me on the books.

I had to fill out one of those "provisional" ballots that Industrailsize mentioned. But a large portion of them still weren't counted here in NM after the election. I don't remember what the controversy was but many were disregarded because of clerical errors voters were making on the ballots I believe.

FYI< Actually, in most states, after the election is over...you can call the secretary of State's division of elections and ask if YOUR provisional ballot was counted. If it wasn't you are entitled to know why.

Thanks to IS, I went back and did the whole provisional ballot thing. I've been waiting all these years to go inside that little curtain and get my vote on, but instead I was relegated to filling out a scan-tran sheet like I was in high school again. Filling out the same info that I did before to get registered in the first place. Now they send off my ballot in a couple days, after we know who won, and then I get the honor to call down to see if they counted my needless ballot in the first place.

This is the kind of shit that discourages me, and I am sure other people. I did everything I was supposed to do, and now as I watch the news and see all the ballots counted and know that I am no part of that does bother me.

Don't worry Michigan and Florida didn't count either for Democrats.

Well it should. Voter fraud is far more rampant than we think. Yes it may have been an error but in the immortal words of Ronnie Reagan, "Trust but verify." I've never had an issue with it though I know people who have. You've got to call them on their shit or else it just opens the door to more of it.

Very proud of you of Mason! Most people wouldn't have bothered.
