I've never heard of that one! What happens if you don't salute a magpie?

I'm superstitious that if I try to capture something amazing on video, it won't work just to spite me.

Most of my superstitions are entertainment industry related...
No whistling in the dressing room...
No hats on a bed...
Bad Dress Rehearsal Superstition...
No candles in the dressing room...
A Pinch For Luck...
The Ghost Light...
Flowers after the show...

The ones handed down to me from my mother are...
Can't spill salt without picking up a few grains and throwing it over my left shoulder...
I can't sleep in a bed if my head is pointing north.
Oh and never put a new pair of shoes on your table!

English folklore.Magpies are associated with bad luck,so a single magpie requires you to doff your hat or salute to ward off any bad luck,at the same time you must say "Hello Mr Magpie, hows your lovely wife and children?" (Varies according regions of the UK.)

And please do not forget not to quote anything from that "Scottish" play, unless you're playing a part in it during a rehearsal or performance.

If an old woman you do not know asks you to fetch her a drink of water, do it.

If you find a penny heads, pick it up up and all the day you'll have good luck.

If you find a penny heads down, pick it up but give it to someone with a frown. Giving a penny found heads down is bad luck, but you reverse the bad luck by giving it to someone with a frown, thereby making them happy and changing bad luck to good.

Ha! I don't believe in superstitious customs but for some reason i've always done the salt over the left shoulder thing mentioned above. I'll never understand my own logic. Maybe it's the Pascal's wager thing. Or maybe it's just easier than getting excess salt back in the tub?

I'm not generally superstitious, but I do find myself saying 'touch wood' on a fairly regular basis, and once I've said it, I HAVE to find some wood to touch.
