there is a religious community that feels that traditional gender roles are important, so things dealing with sex being fun (and not a marital obligation), or disconnected from marraige are leaned on.

anything that empowers women, for that matter, is leaned on. notice that America does not pay for maternity leave? its part of the same dynamic.

Interesting that any family friendly legislation tends to fail in a traditional-family-aiming society.
Maybe, if it doesn't coast the businesses, it might pass.
In the USA, the family medical leave act allows 12 weeks of unpaid time, with the general promise that you will have a job to come back to. Not guaranteed to be the same job. Just "equivalent."
And that is childbirth/adoption, your own illness, a close family member's illness (did your aunt raise you? Tough. She isn't in the short list of relatives covered).

We did much better in the 60s, 70's, even into the late 80s on the West coast but then it has gone downhill from there. In my opinion some new folks (foreigners) have brought with them their very conservative & religious views, this significant tempered all the fun we had.

MissExhibitionist, you are spot on. As someone earlier mentioned, even something as natural as breastfeeding is frowned upon and debated about in The U.S. As another said, The U.S. is more accepting of exposing their children to extreme violence as opposed to healthy displays of sexuality (for instance, someone from the U.S. may get in an uproar because I mention "children" and "healthy sexuality" in the same sentence). That being said, the majority of us in the U.S. don't feel that way. It is our laws, leaders and extremists that keep us from growing with the rest of the world. Penis, vagina and boobs (in the U.S.) are taboo. I was visiting a famous nude beach, here. It was secluded and difficult to get to. Tourists showed up with their children in tow, taking pictures and video of everyone on the beach, all the while stating their disgust. We were women, men, gay, straight, all races and colors. It IS repressed in my country. I am ashamed that it is but desperately want to change that...despite what people tell me. <3

It really is such a shame, in most of the world men and women can get maternity leave !!!!

I love 99% the USA but this really is the 1% I am not keen on, it feels like "if we deny sex happens it will go away" in this aspect the USA needs to move into 2016.

I did not know that women do not get maternity leave in the USA, that is crazy.

That shocked me, too. Canadians get a year of parental leave - either parent can take it, or they can divide the year between them. Plus, if the woman has a difficult pregnancy, she might go on paid sick leave prior to parental leave and it doesn't affect the 12 months.

There is an argument that when the leave was increased from 6 to 12 months, it had a negative impact on the employability of women because big business hesitates to hire young women who may be missing from work for multiple periods of a year of a time. Parental leave is usually taken by the lower earning parent which is usually the women. Parents earning equally often split the leave.

There is debate about the issue, but in reality, no one would give it up. It's awesome. Now we just have to fight for affordable child care, big business education on hiring of women and developing office daycare that runs before and after hours. :D:p

It's dependent upon the company to offer.
In the state of California, one gets three days/24 hours of sick leave, paid. That passed this year. It does not apply to other states.

I think living in the US and being sexually reppresed is the least of worries there at the moment. If Don takes the reigns, and I think he will because the only person who had the ability and credentials to be Prez bowed out.

Being sexually repressed will number in the least of concerns there.

I think the dumbing down of politics there will create more harm than good for all concerened. All.

Yet I see very few female voices, voicing concern at this. Where are the Suffragettes of yesteryear?? :) :)

Hillary is fodder for Dons cannons. Women will not be heard even if she wins. A mighty slim chance of that.

If young mothers, grandmothers do not get up and oppose this man...losely used term. Then many more of their sons will be sent off to appease his wealthy ambitions.

Derailed your thread a little....yet it's about repression. It starts from the top, filters down from there. Some people never ever wish to change the status quo. Is the reason why we keep following those who want us to repeat history.

Yet never follow those who say we need to learn from it.

Anyhoo Miss E......... xo

Per year? I get one day per month.
