The die is cast. The US will now supply the 'rebels'. In actuality we are now supporting the Sunni Muslim tribes against the Shia Allawite tribe of the Assads. We will be pitting ourselves against Iran from Syria's east and Hezbollah from Lebanon to the south. Remember. Syria is an artificial state created by the British and French after WWI. If the Allawites are defeated they will retreat into the hills of northern Lebanon, there homeland. Allied with Hezbollah, they will continue the war from the border. Northern Lebanon will become a de facto Shia state which will create turmoil in Lebanon, much like the 1980's when Reagan sent the Marines into Lebanon (I hope we learned a lesson from that). Believe this, no Sunni government will be a western democratic ally. Much of the Sunni rebel movement is the Muslim Brotherhood and Sunni jihadists like Al Qaeda. And if and when they 'win', they will be on the Golan Heights, overlooking Israel. One only needs to see the track of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, where a westernized middle class, judiciary, and military are trying to maintain moderation. Those forces due not exist in Syria. If the Muslim Brotherhood controls both Egypt and Syria we may again see the creation of the ' United Arab Republic' that Gamal Abdul Nasser created in the late 1950's, a united Arab state surrounding Israel. Then all they will need is another charismatic leader like Nasser. The Middle East is a 'tar baby' in a briar patch, surrounded by a quagmire. All this created by centuries old religious hatreds and Western imperialism. I, for now, can see no 'moderate' or successful outcome.

I cannot stress enough how stupid arming the rebels is. There is no chance in hell these weapon will not end up in the hands of Al Qaeda and their like minded allies. Assad using chemical weapons on the rebels and bystanders is really sad, but this is beyond moronic. This will backfire.

Exactly 11% of America wants US involvement in this fight. 40% want only humanitarian aid. The other 49% want us to stay out of it all together. Tell me how this is a good idea in anyway???

Lose/Lose scenario. This doesn't strike me as much more than a distraction in the States.

I guess we should start the inevitable "what were we thinking" countdown when the Muslim Brotherhood assumes the role of power in Syria.

the interesting point is:
we know that chenical weapons been used - but no one knows WHO use these weapons...
tha largest chemical attacks were on "assad territory", were assad soldiers died.
the turkish goverment could proof, that the rebells own chemical weapons.

its more likelly that that the rebells use chemical weapons, while assad doesnt

Doesn't anyone remember Reagan giving Iraq Howitzers, Defenders/Hueys and Mark 84s despite Iraq being on a terror list? Does anyone remember how these were used against Americans in the two Gulf wars?

Giving arms to 'rogue states' is absolutely stupid. The US helped the Arab Spring with boycotts, asset freezing and secret funding... not sending arms.

Middle East Online::Russia warns US against repeating Iraq war mistake

From the article:
Russia said Friday that US data on the Syrian regime's alleged use of chemical weapons was "unconvincing", and warned Washington against repeating the mistake it made when it falsely accused Saddam Hussein of stocking weapons of mass destruction.

The Kremlin's top foreign policy adviser Yury Ushakov also said the US decision to provide military aid to Syrian rebels would damage international efforts to end a conflict that has left tens of thousands dead.
As much as if pains Fuzzy to admit it, it seems that decapitating the AB with weaponized drones is the cheapest and safest way to physically intervene. Does anybody agree?

Give guns, tanks, rocket launchers to MB sympathizers, deny basic gun rights to law-abiding citizens here in the states. Liberal disconnect from reality.

Gun rights to U.S. citizens? You mean armour piercing bullets and grenade launchers to U.S. citizens, so that they can still bag a deer?

This is what happens when you draw a line in the sand and tell the world that Assad better not cross it.......then not have a plan when he does.

Insert the inevitable painfully awkward Obama presser defending his ineptness.

This has nothing to do with what's right or wrong for Syria. The hawks in Washington want another war because it feeds the economy that depends on the military-industrial complex. It's been that ways since the Truman administration. There must be a war to prop up the US economy. Iraq is over and Afghanistan is winding down, so Syria fills the void. If it wasn't Syria because there isn't another bogeyman right now, and it's too crazy to take on North Korea.

The Sunni Muslim Brotherhood government of Egypt today has broken all diplomatic relations with the Assad government in Syria, and formally thrown its support to the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria. In addition, the Sunni clerics in Egypt issued a holy war fatwa against Assad, urging all Sunnis to join the fight eradicate the Shia Alawite Assads. Like the Catholics and Protestants during the 16th and 17th centuries, religious zealots just love killing people in god's name.
