I think I am going to take my chances naked. The risk is not tanning, but not going out in the sun at all! You have a greater risk of skin cancer if you do not tan. I read this earlier when I was looking it up!

I think that video is hilarious.... "your underwear doesn't block out UV light..." ok, then why the hell do have a ghost white ass when I wear underwear in the tanning bed. I mean if its going to burn me, wouldn't I have to be able to get tan in the first place? :p

If you don't want to buy that poorly marketed product, but don't want tan lines, and still think you might be at some risk if you go completely nude, then wear a damn sock. It blocks out the sun. Try laying a sock on your stomach next time you are at the beach, and see what interesting tan line/spot you'll have.. yeah... ummm that video was retarded. I thought it was a bad beginning to some cheap porn.

Er, can I ask where you read this?

That's like saying that smoking lowers your risk of getting lung cancer!

UV rays cause skin cells to become damaged, when they are damaged there is a greater chance of them not replicating properly
That's when you get skin cancer!

There are dangers of not going out into the sun at all but that's only when you get people who are totally housebound not those who don't go sunbathing

You could do with checking out cancer research organisation websites

I think you may have the wrong end of the stick here. Your skin type detemines what risk you are at from the sun +/- tanning lamps.

Type 1 = Always burns, never tans
Type 2 = Oftens burns, can tan
Type 3 = Normall y tans, can burn
Type 4 = Mediterranean skin
Type 5 = Black skin

Type 1s are at highest risk of skin cancer, and should seriously avoid trying to tan, and use sunscreen in summer. Type 5s are at lowest risk, but can still get skin cancer.

DON'T tan for protection from the sun - it only gives SPF 3 or 4 protection. Use suncreen instead. I would recommend against tanning for cosmetic reasons - fake tan will work for that.

If you have to tan, and are worried about your dick, then take a tube of SPF 30 and rub it on a few minutes before you go into the booth. Then at least one part of you isn't going to get a melanoma.

* sigh * Nobody was around to tell us that on the farm when I was growing up. Not wanting a "farmer's tan" (head, neck and arms tan - body pale white) I worked the fields for many a summer in shorts and tennis shoes whether driving the tractor or walking alongside a wagon tossing hay bales aboard. Much of my free time and work breaks was spent naked, skinnydipping in the creek with cousins, friends and co-workers to keep cool.

I never had a tan line until we moved to the city in my middle teens, when I had to wear my first swimsuit. :puke:

Fastforward to last month, Sept 2005. My dermatologist, having checked every square inch of my skin, has found a few 'troublesome' spots which are pre-cancerous. They will have to be removed. (My forearms popped out with moles and bumps that dry and flake away constantly, then it spread almost all over me.) Now I have to use a thick cream everywhere I can reach on my body every day - the prescription costs $125 for a month's supply, just to moisturize these spots. This regimen will continue for a year, when I'll have another going-over by the dermatologist. In the meantime I have to prepare to have those aforementioned pre-cancerous things burned away.

I'm not alone in this - many of my cousins are going through much the same thing. I'm just damned lucky that cancer does not run in my family.

Just be careful, guys. I love the sun. I love the all-over tan.

But at what cost?

Good luck with that. Got fingers crossed that you'll be okay.

The only other thing I can comment about being more likely to get cancer if you tan as opposed to not tanning, might be if you were NEVER exposed to sunlight, which your skin DOES need at some levels to produce a number of things within the cells. Maybe if you weren't exposed to ANY light, that these things wouldn't be made, and you might have an increase risk in cancer? I dunno.. I'm still waiting to hear your source.

This is what I was trying to say - No sunlight can cause a deficiency in Vitamin A production. But that really is just for people who almost never go out in the sun
If you sun bathe and do not use sun screen you are putting yourself at great risk of skin cancer

You realize much of the world is between 4 and 5, so that's probably a LITTLE too imperfect of a scale. It's not even a good logarithmic scale because the average is a 4 or 5.

But it doesn't matter. It's just a scale attempting to classify a continuum. But basically, the lighter you are (or the more likely you are to burn), the more at risk you are.

Hey dude, so i'm not a tanning guy at all, I do to much theatre to get a tan ever, and a tan for me would be an obvious fake, BUT, you should get one of these http://www.jocksock.net/about_whatis_qt.htm if you want to get a full tan without killing the happy package.
In summary, your penis and testicles are very very sensitive (as we all know) and tanning FULLY nude can do all kinds of BAD things for your set. So, get one of those jocksocks before you tan "nude".
Be safe,
T

Also...why go to a tanning bed place? Why not like, ya know...lay out in the sun? I'm pretty shure goin to a tanning salon is WAY more damaging than the sun.

Totally! How could I forget to mention the most important part of a real sun tan? *bonk*

Yeah. One of the big problems with the tanning salon is, while it's nowhere NEAR as intense as the sun, it's also only inches away from your skin, whereas the sun's 150 million km away.

I used to use the tanning beds at my gym and I always went naked because I like an all over tan. No problems. The gym employees sprayed the beds with disinfectant and wiped them down after every use.
