In the book, the characters hated each other the first time they met lol. It wouldn't worried me tho. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling hate each other, but they still had great chemistry on screen
weren't they in a relationship like for the longest time?

I’ve no idea how anyone could conclude they hate each other. I could quite safely say I have no idea. Nick uses social media very sporadically & almost solely to promote his films, sponsor deals & himself. They don’t interact much on socials at all but Nick doesn’t interact with anyone much on social media. I get the impression Nick wasn’t as involved with socialising with the cast purely because he’s always ridiculously busy. While filming RWRB, he was promoting another movie & presumably prepping for his next role he started filming within a month of RWRB finishing. By contrast, Taylor hasn’t filmed anything else since RWRB wrapped & appears to have far more free time to travel back & forth to London and LA to meet up with Matthew Lopez & see some of the other cast. When they were filming pick ups earlier this year, Nick was filming another movie at the same time & I imagine had zero time to hang with everyone else dashing between two film sets!
Nick said in an interview that he’s good mates with Taylor & while it might be complete bullshit, it also could be the truth. Who knows!

OOP tea. Thats better than them just being casual acquaintances tbh, Maybe that'll bring some passion to the screen. They also better be forced to do press together, I wanna see the tension!

This goes way back to when the cast for the movie was announced for the first time. The die hard fans of the book immediately hated the actors. One of the many reasons they came up with to justify their hate was that the actors allegedly had no chemistry and they hate each other. There were zillions of tiktoks overanalyzing every interaction of them trying to proof the fans' delusions. It was absolutely hilarious. This outrage died off eventually but somehow the myth of them "hating each other" survived.
I’m as die hard fan of the book as they come & I love the casting. I’ve no idea what everyone is whinging about. Nick looks like he could be a royal & Taylor is Alex in real life. They are both beautiful & make a gorgeous looking couple.
I do however think the casting might have been more widely accepted if at least one of them was openly gay. I know the book fans really wanted that. Its a fairly mainstream queer love story, written by a queer author & I know a lot of people were really keen for that representation to continue into the casting. I can kinda see that point. I don’t really care personally but I do understand where a lot of fans were coming from.

There’s no way in hell Nick and Taylor are 100% straight. In my opinion Nicholas is bi and Taylor is gay
Nicholas better be something if he's gonna continue snatching up all of Hollywood's gay roles like that
The RWRB Discord - that’s where thousands of the die hard fans live. They are a great bunch & they were quite vocal at their disappointment Taylor & Nick ‘aren’t gay’. By that, I mean openly gay. Taylor almost certainly is gay but not openly. When I’ve sporadically mentioned it on there, most were really surprised I thought he was & had no idea about Garrett.
If it wasn't for this thread I would've never guessed Taylor was gay. I've been following him for the longest time and I had not even noticed Garrett until someone here pointed him out. I probably dismissed him as one of those background friends. I'm sure for people who aren't in LPSG, over 90 percent don't have an inkling to Taylor's sexuality
Ah, Of course discord. Lol. I just wanted confirmation bc usually BL media fangirls don't seem to often care deeply about such things. As a general rule. So I found that odd in this instance.
Fundamentally I think this is what the glass closet is. A queer guy lives his life. Neither lying about his identity nor broadcasting it. And then people will often just assume they're straight by default (which is only natural right?)
I read some study that only 1 in every 30 men identify as LGBT+ in the USA. So it's right to assume that a straight presenting man is straight.
I wouldn't say Taylor is glass closeted. For you to be glass closeted it has be very obvious that you are gay. I don't think it's obvious that he's gay, you have to do some deep digging into his life. To me, someone in the glass closet is someone who'll you will immediately ping as queer
Like for example, if Shawn Mendes was supposed to end up being gay it would be said he was in a glass closet. This is because of his mannerisms e.t.c
If we're operating under the assumption that glass closet only means "everyone thinks you're gay even though you don't identify as gay" . Then sure. Yeah. But that is not the only definition of glass closet.
It can simply mean someone who is out but just discreet or ambiguous about it. I prefer this definition.

Everyone knows? Hmm not sure about that. I think a lot of people probably still think Richard is straight. Only very online people and tabloid reader types would even be aware of his dating history imho. To the general public. He is seen as straight afaik

Would the average person immediately "ping" Madden as gay though? I feel like your perspective is a bit contradictory here no? Do you think most people who know Madden only from GoT or Citadel would think he is gay?
I prefer a more detailed view of glass closet. Bc we need to be able to differentiate between guys who openly deceive (have gfs/wives etc and deny being gay when asked) aka "the closet" vs guys who simply remain private about their sexuality but don't actively lie.
Seems reductive to just paint them all with a broad brush.
