Would the average person immediately "ping" Madden as gay though? I feel like your perspective is a bit contradictory no?

I prefer a more broad view of glass closet. Bc we need to be able to differentiate between guys who openly deceive (have gfs/wives etc and deny being gay when asked) aka "the closet" vs guys who simply remain private about their sexuality but don't actively lie.

Seems reductive to just paint them all with a broad brush.

I said that in future if Shawn Mendes was to come out he would have been considered as someone in the glass closet. This is because of his mannerisms or the way he talks and stuff. My argument is for you to be considered in the glass closet it has to be obvious to the public. For example, Hayley Kiyoko, who presented very lesbian but took sometime to come out was considered to be in the glass closet in her younger years.

Taylor isn't queer presenting and neither is his relationship obviously gay. So I don't understand how he's in a glass closet

I think it’s more about to what extent you hide your sexuality. If you fully fully hide it, you’re in the closet. If you’re fully open about it, you’re out of the closet. If you neither confirm nor deny, don’t overtly hide it but also don’t overtly confirm it, I’d say you’re in the glass closet - in the closet, but people can see in. (It doesn’t mean that everyone will notice though).

Not to harp on about actor's in the closet but I wouldn't consider Taylor to even be in the "glass closet" Luke Evans before he officially came out and "dating women" I would consider an example of the glass closet.

Richard Madden is another example of the glass closet since he was involved in PR relationships with other women.

Taylor doesn't seem to hide Garrett and never went out of his way to be in a PR relationship with a woman. He's very much out of the closet with his friends, family and if you take a close look, you'd see he lives his life openly. He doesn't seem like he's hiding from the public at all.

I think the reason RWRB hard core fans were so keen for someone gay to play these characters is because there is a lot of queer people in that fandom. I’m one of them. One of the few boys I think. I don’t think all gay roles should be played by gay people necessarily but I get why people cared in this instance. It’s a movie with a built in, very active fanbase.

I think the movie reviews on Bottoms are out(they've been since April) I haven't seen anywhere them mentioning his character as gay.
