The more things change the more things stay the same. A toast to Star and Trinity

    Tea Parties Forever

Today’s G.O.P. is, after all, very much a minority party. It retains some limited ability to obstruct the Democrats, but has no ability to make or even significantly shape policy.

    ------------------

But here’s the thing: the G.O.P. looked as crazy 10 or 15 years ago as it does now.

    -----------------

it turns out that the tea parties don’t represent a spontaneous outpouring of public sentiment. They’re AstroTurf (fake grass roots) events, manufactured by the usual suspects.

Crazy, maybe, but at least they had a semblance of a coordinated political plan 15 years ago.
It was the Gingrich and "Contract With America" years, their political savvy and partisanship helped establish and consolidate Republican power for over a decade.

I doubt they couldn't put something like that together at this point. We'll see.

I'll toast star. On very rare occasions.

And it's generally for being a good sport.

    I concur.
Apart from the "ho" thing and Cavs fandom, Star actually seems to be a cool guy. Any private communication we've had has been friendly, and yes, he is a good sport.

Hey Star.. Are you all going to be celebrating your President's decisive handling of that situation in the Indian Ocean, at your tea party?

I'm not sure that will come up; as the issues that are first and foremost at the tea party are related to spending and we will be marching a petition over to city hall requesting that some of the pork money be returned to the treasury. The tea parties don't address national security issues at this point.

Although I'm pleased that Obama was decisive in regards to the hostage situation and the Navy.

...but, you WILL be addressing that only people who earn over $250k are having their taxes increased, correct? And that increase only aligns them with what they had paid under BC, correct? That the middle class is actually getting a cut, right?

<sarcasm>I was pretty sure you were celebrating these truths. Keep up the good work.</sarcasm>

    Note:

I'm sure you know that no one is bitching about the marginal increase from 36% to 39%. The primary complaint is the spending and the pork. That's all.

I'm with Dennis Miller on the tax issue. Tell us how much we owe, and we'll pay it.

Its the spending that gives us heartburn.

    Just saying, note.

I'm so ready for the tea parties.

I have my "Obama is a Muslim!" sign ready to go. And the "Stop Corporate Bonuses!" sign.

    As well as my

    One
    Big
    Awful
    Mistake
    America

My friend has her Pelosi: A Real Pig with Lipstick sign ready to go!

Stay out of my piggy bank!

    B.O. Stinks!

As you can clearly see, these Rush Limbaugh-listening, Sarah Palin-supporting yahoos are the crème de la crème.

    My Favorite Teabagger <snicker> signs.

    -- "Freedom Not Free Loaders!"
-- "No Taxation Without Representation!" next to "Fire A Congressmen"

Actually, Star, where you this upset when Bush ran up the debt on a $1.2 Trillion tax cut or $700 Billion and counting on the Iraq War?

If it were really just anti-stimulus, I could *almost* understand the people. But, if you have seen any of the video of earlier Teabagger <snicker> events, here are some of the themes:

    -- Obama as a Muslim
-- Obama was born in Kenya or is not a citizen
-- Obama is a Socialist/Communist/Fascist/Nazi/Black Liberationist (Really, you guys should pick one and stick with it.)
-- Take your kids out of college, they are being brainwashed
-- Burn all the books in college, in particular the ones about evolution
-- Take our country back! (Note, the groups were almost exclusively white, so draw your own conclusions about this one.)
-- The government is brainwashing us via HDTV converters (I kid you not.)

So, Star, I hope your Queen City event is peaceful and lacking Glenn Beck-inspired militia 'Patriots' (sic) and book-burners.

I'd like to know more about where Krugman got his tax figures that when all is said and done the "rich" will be paying 10% less than they did during the Reagan years under Obama's proposals. If true, that would certainly stall the buffeting sails of the tea baggers. I also liked his updating of the Tea Parties as not being so much a grass roots movement but an astro turf movement.
