My prayers are with the Kennedy family and Senator Kennedy at this time. Yes, he has made mistakes in his life. Yes, many of us know or have heard some rather disturbing things about his father's behavior. The man is dying, on the most basic level I feel compassion for him regardless of mistakes that have been made in his life. WHen we get to the end of our lives do all of us want others to slam us in the face with things that happened 40 years before? I am sure he above all people has had to live with the death of Miss Koepeckne. Regardless of that unfortunate event he has served his nation well in the senate for 40 years. There is no denying that...

Sam once again you know you have my prayers and sympathies at this time.
Well said about the senator. I too have Pecker in my thoughts and prayers. What a great guy he is. I dont think LPSG would be the same without him.

This is very sad news about Senator Kennedy.

The only good thing about it--if there is any good--is that he lived a long life. His brother, Joe, and sister, Kathleen, were both killed in plane crashes when they were very young. Robert and John were shot to death in their prime. His nephew, John Jr, was killed in a plane crash. One of Bobby's sons died from an overdose, and another was killed while skiing. He was a father figure to his brother's children. He's lived a life of ups and downs, which is no different than the rest of us. Yes, he was born with certain privileges, and with that comes baggage.

The truth is we all are going to die, and it appears that this is the way he's going to go. The media is calling this another Kennedy tragedy or the "Kennedy curse" rearing it's ugly head again. I don't see it that way. He has lived an amazing life, and it's not like he's 30 years old. He survived a plane crash in the 1960's. Had he been killed, that would have been tragic.

From what I heard on the news, this type of tumor is extremely difficult to operate on because of its location in the brain. He'll receive chemo and radiation, and depending on the stage of his cancer, he can live from 1-5 years, not bad for a man who is 76. Maybe he'll live even longer.

As far as Chappaquidick, William Kennedy Smith's rape trial, and all of the other scandals go--they happened, they were tragic, and I'm sure he's lived with a lot mental anguish throughout his life. He has a strong religious faith, and as a believer, he knows that he will have to answer to all of that in the end.

Pecker, I'm very sorry for your loss.

If this were a medical issue with Bush i think there would have been 30 pages by now of insults, "good riddance", he deserves it...yadda yadda.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not a fan of Senator Kennedy, but had this been Bush diagnosed with brain cancer, there would have been a lot of very happy people.

It's kind of sad when people find joy in other's tragedies.

Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He may make a recovery or he may succumb to the disease. That remains to be seen.

I'm afraid recovery is very unlikely. We always hope for recovery, but this is one of the most fatal forms of cancer.

Those of you spitting vitriol will be pleased to know the Senator will decline very rapidly, probably lose his ability to speak and understand speech within a few months, and likely be dead within a year.

In terms of morbidity and mortality, this disease is very severe. His family will have to watch his rapid descent until his death. The only solace is that it won't take very long.

His sordid history aside, I wouldn't wish a malignant brain tumor on anyone, nor should anyone else. And discussing his past in an attempt to seemingly express how much he "deserved" it is like discussing how much someone "deserves" to be tortured in front of his family.

Not that my saying it will have any effect, but: Have some class, guys. I know it's not easy for a lot of people over the Internet to have an ounce of dignity, but come on.

yeah, you can laugh at somebody else's expense, but always remember, what goes around always comes back to bite you, you know where????

I wasn't loling at the tumor, I was loling at someone's comment on here.

Also, I guess you're probably right. What goes around comes around. So when I get cancer, someone I've never met will probably make fun of me on the internet.

OH NO

edit: you're a pussy

You know what? I'd be far more inclined to sympathy if Kennedy had told the truth and faced the consequences rather than lie. Right action would have demonstrated good character. Yet still, after all these years, he has not done that. I hope he uses his remaining time to clear his conscience and be a mensch.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, guys, but you may find this interesting.

Research Links Herpes Virus and Brain Tumors | Wired Science from Wired.com

If Ted Kennedy's cancerous lesion is a glioblastoma multiforme, the most common kind of brain tumor, it may have been caused by a virus from the herpes family.
Last year, Duane Mitchell and his colleagues at Duke University learned that cytomegalovirus is present at elevated levels in more than 90 percent of glioblstoma multiforme tumors. Armed with that knowledge, they are testing a vaccine that fights the common virus as a brain-cancer remedy.

It was unconscionable for him to leave a woman underwater in a car, go back to his room to go to sleep, and then wake up the next morning to report it. I think many will agree that he got off with a slap on the wrist; I'm sure he even realizes it.

It did come back to bite him when he tried to run for president. The Kopechne family and others were outraged. A controversy ensued which derailed him from running for president then and ever again.

and people say bush is hitler all the time, which if soooo fucked up as well

I don't quite get the Bush/Hitler comparisons that have come out over the past few years. "Fucked up" is putting it mildly. People who think like that need to brush up on their history, and should try focusing their hatred on someone other than Bush.

Not saying it's untrue.

Just saying that 50% of all people in the United States have a cytomegalovirus infection.

Much of the genome is aberrantly expressed in a normal high grade glioma. To me, it is not unexpected that latent viruses would start being expressed as well, given the loss of epigenetic control over global gene expression.

Given how rare GBMs are and how common CMV infections are, a causative link would be surprising to me.
