So what happens when white supremisits start thinking he's Nazi? Does the universe cave in because the paradox is so strong?

So if I understand your line of "reasoning" those who have policy disagreements with our beloved leader are supposed to shut up? Aghhh.....so we are not allowed to exercise our free speech rights to argue against our beloved leaders headlong rush to socialism.....we are not permitted in your world view to express our displeasure with having our nation and children bankrupted.....oh ok....just wanted to make sure we understood. Hummm seems to ring a bell what period of world history does that remind me of......gosh what was that....ohhh yeah the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany....thanks for playing...now go read OUR Constitution (not that it would do any good...but try...just for me please)

I think the main issue here is civility. The republican party seems to be lacking it recently...

Thank you, that is exactly the point of the blog excerpts I posted. That and some rationality are sorely lacking. Barack Obama is no more the next Hitler than George W. Bush was. I didn't like many of former President Bush's initiatives but he was nothing like Adolf Hitler. For one thing Hitler was a vegetarian and shunned alcohol.

Those dastardly Republicans posted directions to Democratic town hall meetings! Holy shit!

Uhh, were they supposed to be secret?

But no harm done, just so long as those union thugs can find their way to the meetings and hammer on a few of those pesky protesters.

Union Thugs Deliver Unprovoked Beating on Black Conservative at Carnahan Town Hall | St. Louis Tea Party

[Note that the "union thugs" of the story were reported to be wearing "Service Employees International Union" T-shirts, which is not ironclad proof that they did in fact have any connection with the Union. For that matter, we have little evidence that the protesters have any connection at all with the Republican Party. I expect that we'll see a lot of "spin" about this story in the next few days.]

Hmm. Hitler was a vegetarian. He was also big on animals....Hmmm...What political party has most of those in it? What presidential candidate did PETA support this last election? Which political party is so opposed to greenhouse gases that feeding cattle produce to breed them for steak, for meat-eating omnivores such as myself?

    I wonder.........................let me think for a minute.....

    OH YES! Liberal Democrats!!!

Barack Obama wants anyone who disagrees with him to shut up. Nice 2nd amendment respect he has. GOGO GADGET BLACKSTALIN!

By the way. I'll tell Rush Limbaugh to shut up if you will do me a huge favor, and tell:

Jon Stewart, Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow, Oprah Winfrey, Alec Baldwin, Bill Mahr, Patton Oswald, Perez Hilton, Goldie Hawn, ...ALL..to shut up as well. They've made comments that are alot more ignorant and inflammatory than Rush. The difference is, you agree with them.

The only thing more un-American than Rush Limbaugh is his group of whacked-out "dittoheads" who slaver every afternoon, eager for the angry fat drug-addicted serial-marriage-abuser to give them their daily marching orders.

    Sad.

WTF has Oprah Winfrey said that were ignorant and inflammatory? Or anyone else on your list for that matter (aside from Mahr who made that one remark years ago).

Methinks somebody is just talking out their ass. Unproven claims are a common refuge for a neocon. Eventually, nobody listens to them -- unless they are loud, fat and have a radio show.

Few people like hearing criticism, and Obama's critics tend to be less-than-respectful, tactful, or all that well-informed. When they're willing to have an intelligent discussion and not just believe the government wants to euthanize the elderly, I think the general public will be more willing to hear their side.

Also, I believe you mean FIRST Amendment, Mr. Constitutional scholar.

None of those people are anywhere near as consistently inflammatory, ignorant, or near-slanderous as Rush.

Olbermann tends to get rather sanctimonious and holier-than-thou at times, I will admit, but what he says pales in comparison to some of the more hateful right-wing pundits.

Maddow is pretty reasonable and level-headed (despite being a lefty ), and I'm not quite sure what you have against Stewart, Oprah, Baldwin, Oswalt, or Hawn, aside from you merely disagreeing with them. Furthermore, Oswalt and Stewart are professional comedians, so hyperbole is going to be a handy tool for them, if you have issues with their assessments of the previous administration's governing.

I can see how some people may not like Bill Maher, as he tends to get preachy at times. Again, though, what he says isn't that bad--just easy to disagree with.

And as far as I'm aware, everyone wants Perez Hilton to shut up.:biggrin1:

Do any of the people using these terms have a clue what they mean. It doesn't take a masters in economics. Which I have.

Nazi - German acronym for Nationalsocialism. About as far away from we think of socialism now. Based on national pride and anti-communist. Until Hitler grabbed it not always anti-semetic.

Socialist - Meaningless. Seriously, there are so many different things that can be called socialist that it's like saying I speak Chinese or Hindu. There's 1000s of variations.

Communist - A theory (never implemented) of worker owned and worker run industry. The former Soviet Union and mainland China are so not communist. They are/were 1 party dictatorships.

Regardless, you can't be all 3. Please pick one. And I lived in Italy for 2 years under semi-national health care. People are a lot happier with it and it is a lot better run than in the US. And as much as I love Italy cooking and making love are the only things Italians excel at. They are awesome at that. But otherwise, I mean they shose Mussolini cause he got the trains to run on time.

Town Hall meetings erupting in threats or violence?

I thought anyone who looked likely to oppose the purpose of the event was to be ushered to a "Free Speech Zone" several blocks safely away.

Or, at least, that's what speakers from the Bush administration benefitted from.

I'm NOT for Limbaugh "shutting the fuck up". I'm for free speech and he and his ilk have every right in the world to have their say. In fact, I believe we NEED such people.

We need them to remind us of those in our society who still function from an ideology of hatred and bigotry, and that we need continue to be on guard for it.

Every time I read or hear some argument suggesting there is no racism, no discrimination, no racial profiling, no need for Affirmative Action etc. etc. I think of those like Limbaugh, Beck, Walter and Johnson and their followers, and am unconvinced.

QFT! Good point, if we silence the whack jobs then we don't know who to be leery of.

It's funny how some people are willing to ignore the details in order to hold onto their condemning and short minded beliefs.

For once can we look at what each individual is doing in order to really address where the problems are? To say that "Democrats are just as guilty" inadvertently validates Republicans for doing the same thing and nothing ever gets addressed. With this nonchalant attitude, we never pay attention to the details and it allow the Limbaughs, The Becks & the O'Reillys out there to spread the hate without challenge.

Nobody here should even be defending what Limbaugh is saying. Not only is it disgusting and based on complete fallacy, but it plays on the delicate and feeble emotions of those who don't know the true story. Instead of trying to be informative, Limbaugh conveys a message of fear and hatred and disguises it as some kind of "truthful message". More people need to get in his face and tell him to STFU. That doesn't mean that he's no longer entitled to his "free speech", so let's not even make that an argument. Nobody is trying to silence the man. He can say what's on his mind. But the price for "free speech" is our freedom to respond. And if you're not going to like the responses, then think twice about engaging in your so-called "free rights".

And right now I don't even want to see dissenters, in their attempt to push their own hate based agendas disguised as neutrality, deflect the issue and try to talk about how Olbermann, Maddow or whomever does the same thing. If that's your argument, then please start a separate thread about them and we can take them to task for whatever they've said. People like Limbaugh will never be brought to task if we cannot look past the political labels. Sadly, he knows this but many of us don't.

you do realize you are saying you would curtail someone's speech, because you neither agree nor approve?

:no:how far the left is taking us from:

'I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it,' Evelyn Beatrice Hall

Exactly. And the only way one can respond and expose the bigots and demogogues for what they are, is to hear the bullshit that's on their minds.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I for one prefer those who out themselves, rather than the sneaky bastards who quietly go about thinking the same.

I fear such a step is just like arguing with religious zealots.

Hate radio zealots crave the notoriety, the controversy, and, above all, they crave the opportunity to portray themselves as downtrodden, disempowered victims of the big, bad left that wants to censor or drown out the "truth."

Best just to turn the radio to another station and ignore hate radio windbags equally zealously.
