Mine was about 480 last it was checked. I'm 45 now, and still have the same urges as usual. I've been told the levels range from 200-1000.

How do you measure testosterone? Is it something that you can test at home or do you need to have this done by a doctor?

Also, whats the best way to increase testostorone levels?

You need to have blood tests done.

Also, it sounds like a great thing to have more of but too much and it can cause problems so read up on it and be careful. Excess testosterone is thought to cause prostate cancer.

This is a topic that really makes me angry! :angryfire2: Good luck finding a reputable doctor that doesn't place his entire diagnosis on your T-level. As you can see from the above "range" almost all men fall into it and most doctors won't blink an eye as long as you are within that range.

I would think that a drop of 200 in 1 year warrants further investigation. The level you are talking about is your Total T-level, a very broad range. Now, what you need to have tested through additional blood work is:
    Albumin
    Free T
    Sex hormone binding globulin
    Free and Weakly Bound T
    Follicle Stimulating Hormone
    Luteinizing Hormone
    Prolactin
    Estradiol
    DHEA
    Cortisol
    Free Thyroxine
    TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)

If your doctor won't give you a full T workup including all these, change doctors! Then, if that doctor just wants to give you anti-depressants or Viagra, change doctors again!

Doctors have been routinely treating menopause for years but andropause? Most doctors will say "Oh, you are just getting old" as long as you fall withing that stupid "range." Bullshit! Keep looking for a doctor that will take your total health picture seriously. Oh, and unless your doctor can legitimitely provide you with a physical reason for taking an ED drug, don't let them peddle that crap off on you. They may make you as hard as a rock, even harder than when you were a kid, but they won't do shit for your libido.

It has been 5 years since my last workup so I need to get my butt checked again real soon. BTW, 5 years ago:
    Total 585 (241-827)
    Free 115 (34-194)
    Sex hormone binding 41 (7-50)
    Free 7 Weakly bound T 247 (84-402)
all the rest were also right in the middle of the range. My FSH, TSH and Prolactin were in the botom 1/4 of the range and my LH was in the bottom 1/3.
To me, that was indicitive of further testing but I couldn't find a doc that would order it. All they want to do is push you the blue pill.

How do I feel? They call me grumpy at work. I seldom get *real* horny and if I do it is really short-lived. I am usually angry, almost to the point of rage, starting about 8-10 hours after sex. I have no desire to socialize
but I still shoot like a fire hydrant (must be the high sex binding globulin)! Anyone know a good Andro doc in AZ? PM me.

BTW, I paid the lab but not the doc for his stupid BS advice!:biggrin1:

Typically, Testosterone is given a bad undeserved rap. Men and women both produce it and I don't believe it causes cancer in and of itself. From my understanding, T has the capability to increase cancer's agressiveness if you already have cancer. Any reputable doctor who puts you on T therapy will monitor your PSA (prostate) levels and should also monitor your Free PSA as well as perform regular digital rectal exams in addition to performing other routine bloodwork.

I am 74 and mine is staying right up there....about 900....I would enjoy sex three times a day...but of course , I am not that much in demand any more. I really believe a high testosterone level is the reason I am constantly horny for sex! In a way my level is too high , in that I normally just get off by myself!

I'm 60 and have never ever had my testosterone level checked. I figure that if I cum at least twice a day, and my voice hasn't changed to soprano, the level must be adequate for my needs.

The thing about medical tests, whether for blood pressure or cholesterol or anything else, even if they're done accurately, is that they're only a snapshot of one moment in time.

Testosterone normally varies throughout the course of a day. And it varies in response to diet, exercise, and sexual activity. So, if you go to the doctor and get an arbitrary number from one test, it may not be meaningful enough to draw any conclusions from.

My doctors checks my Testosterone with an early morning blood test (levels are usually at their peak during this time). I don't eat after mid-night and skip breakfast. My levels were somewhat lower than normal and started me on Androgel. This is a gel which is applied to the upper arm and/or stomach area. This raised my T levels to a higher range. It is amazing what this medication can do. I feel much better-overall; less tired, I now have more energy, sexual desire has increased. Ejaculations are stronger, volume seems larger too! I have used this drug for over 2 years and highly recommend it.
