This mess with the storm has been a lesson in abject failure with the GOP leadership in the state. The weather event was predicted. Why was the energy grid not ready? There also was not good information to the public as a result. We were told to stay indoors and off the streets from Sunday to Tuesday. But they didn't tell us to prepare to be without water and electricity for days on end in the coolest days of the year.

Even in the middle of it my power was out 24 hours others have been out a lot more. Now we have to boil water until further notice.

But Ted Cruz gets a Cancun getaway at least. Perhaps the time fire vacation would have been after the election instead of being in other state's business trying to get black people's votes thrown out.

Ted Cruz’s Cancún Trip: Family Texts Detail His Political Blunder

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was “FREEZING,” as Ms. Cruz put it — and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, where they had stayed “many times,” noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts.

This is an ERCOT and Texas Congress issue. Regulated utilities aren’t going to invest in winterization unless there is a return on investment through a rate case. Texas PSC can make that happen. This is not a political issue. A green new deal wouldn’t have saved Texas. Tell me you disagree.

No electricity isn't a political issue. Government has no role in ensuring electricity, water, food, etc.?

ERCOT controls electricity. ERCOT is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature. The PUC is responsible for ensuring the companies comply with all laws and regulations.

I'm luvin' the outrage, not the outage:

RawStory.com:
'Cry us a Mai Tai': Top Texas newspaper demands Ted Cruz resign over Cancun trip
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is facing a call to resign from one of his state's largest newspapers.

In an editorial published on Friday, the Houston Chronicle shredded Cruz for fleeing to Cancun while millions of his fellow Texans were freezing and without electricity.

The Chronicle editors wrote that Cruz deserved condemnation after he "plopped himself down on a direct flight to paradise and left us to fend for ourselves in this frozen hell."

The editors also brushed aside Cruz's initial excuse about "trying to be a good dad" by taking his family to Cancun while Texas faces a massive crisis.

"Cry us a Mai Tai," they wrote. "Good parents all over Houston are modeling resilience for their kids as they struggle to make do without enough food or water or the lesser comforts of civilization such as iPhones and Netflix."

The editors noted that they called for Cruz's resignation last month for his role in trying to help former President Donald Trump overturn the results of the 2020 election, but they said that "escaping to Mexico hits a new low" and again demanded his resignation.

"Take our advice, senator, and resign," they concluded "Seems like you could use a break and we could, too, from an ineffective politician who, even in crisis, puts his personal itinerary before the needs of Texans."

While Ted Cruz was rushing back to USA, AOC raised $1 million for the people of Texas
Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz and right wing extremists Erick Erickson, Dinesh D'Souza, Ben Shapiro, and Donald Trump, Jr., all thought there was nothing a sitting U.S. Senator could do for the millions of people freezing and starving in the Lone Star State.

After massive internet outrage – outrage that was called "cancel culture" today in a rant from Trump Jr. – Senator Cruz hightailed it back to America from his Cancun crash pad at the Ritz Carlton, put out a statement lying about the origins of his Mexico excursion, literally lied some more, and came home to a his Houston home that was empty except for his dog Snowflake and his security guard hanging out in his car in the driveway.

While the Texas Senator was doing all this, a Congresswoman from New York City went to work for his constituents, because someone had to.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised $1 million for the people of Texas. All of it will be distributed to five Texas charities.

"100% of this relief is going straight to Texan food assistance, homelessness relief, elder care, and more", she Tweeted.

The extra nice bit about the Ted Cruz vacation, he ran away from Freezing Texas to the warmer climate of Cancun is the fact that when another senator for the state took a vacation a few months ago Cruz shouted him out for dereliction of duty
Actually dereliction of duty is something Cruz is very familiar with.

So yes a political issue as well as an ideological one.

I hope if nothing else the state/fed questions or audits how he racks up and utilizes his frequent flier miles.

Federal government you have to separate your and use your official mileage from your personal mileage.

Cheap fuck should be able to pay for business based on what he milks out of the cow.
