What are people’s thoughts?

I thought it was great. My only criticism is that it’s almost certainly a corporate cash-in on #metoo but then if it does some good and gets men to consider their behaviour then I’m all for it. Just like when companies add pride flags to their Facebook profile picture or something, it may be cashing in but it still helps.

I saw a pretty funny/accurate tweet wondering what the Venn diagram overlap would be between men who object to the advert and men who insult women after being rejected...
And another that said if that advert made you feel bad then you’re the reason they made it.

There’s also a great article on the Guardian website but it has the advert as an embedded video so I’m not sure I’m allowed to link to it?
(It uses the word Testeria though which I thought was a great word for the MRA outcry)

Digging Deeper
Gillette’s new #MeToo-inspired ad campaign is facing backlash.
Angry customers are boycotting giant razor-maker Gillette due to a new ad that questions toxic masculinity. The first half of the "We Believe" ad features men shrugging off childhood bullying or behaving badly toward women. About midway through, the narrator proclaims that something has changed. Men intervene to stop other men from catcalling and children are admonished from hitting or threatening another child. "It's only by challenging ourselves to do more, that we can get closer to our best," the ad concludes. Many praised the ad for its call to action, but some critics are tweeting at Gillette to stop "crapping all over" men who've bought their products or "emasculating" them. A Fox News commentator asked, "Does Gillette want men to start shaving their legs, too?" Activists say the critics are too thin-skinned over the ad. "If it threatens you to the point of hatred," one person tweeted, "you may want to think a little about that." A Gillette spokesperson says, "If we get people to pause, reflect and to challenge themselves and others to ensure that their actions reflect who they really are, then this campaign will be a success." Editor’s note: Gillette is one of NPR's financial supporters.

It's a commercial, wtf do I care :p

What I do find irritating are all the commercials that portray dads as clueless, bumbling morons. Oh no, a diaper, this requires rocket science!

Definitely that! I’m sure there was one recently with an incompetent dad trying to make dinner (Hah! A dad cooking dinner!).

In some ways I think it’s fair enough, women have been the subjects of plenty of degrading/abusive/offensive adverts but then two wrongs don’t make a right.

The response is stupid. It's also overblown (news agencies pretending some doofus's twitter remarks are newsworthy).

The bolded portion made me think of Trump.

The response might be overblown, but the outrage is real. I have seen it on Facebook and on other sites that I frequent.

Facebook is full of a lot of people who will get "outraged" about a lot of things when they're supposed to be working :p

It was something else last week and it'll be something else next week.

I think you're being a little bit too dismissive of this. I don't think there are going to be riots about this commercial, but it does feed into the persecution complex of the anti-feminist MRA/MGTOW crowd.

I'm not a pro-bono therapist. I don't owe the MGTOW movement anything more than being dismissive. I don't spend any time on those sites for a reason.

Based on your hateful, personal attacks, you're not fit to be any sort of therapist.

Freddy ol' chap, if anyone on LPSG knows hate, it's you. It consumes you. It motivates you. Because you hate it when your typing is challenged. Which happens over and over. Again and again. It's why you lash out here. Deflect. Project. Ignore. Deny. Lie. Because you hate the truth. You hate facts.

And goodness sake Freddy, you're the LPSG poster child for personal attacks. It's what you resort to when you have nothing of substance with which to rebut. Like here...lol!

Speaking of therapist Freddy--you should see one. Soon. You got some issues my friend. Lots and lots...
