I've never seen it summed up so succinctly...........

Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs, a conservative-leaning political blog, officially announced his break with the right...........
Why I Parted Ways With The Right
    1. Support for fascists, both in America (see: Pat Buchanan, Robert Stacy McCain, etc.) and in Europe (see: Vlaams Belang, BNP, SIOE, Pat Buchanan, etc.)

    2. Support for bigotry, hatred, and white supremacism (see: Pat Buchanan, Ann Coulter, Robert Stacy McCain, Lew Rockwell, etc.)

    3. Support for throwing women back into the Dark Ages, and general religious fanaticism (see: Operation Rescue, anti-abortion groups, James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins, the entire religious right, etc.)

    4. Support for anti-science bad craziness (see: creationism, climate change denialism, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, James Inhofe, etc.)

    5. Support for homophobic bigotry (see: Sarah Palin, Dobson, the entire religious right, etc.)

    6. Support for anti-government lunacy (see: tea parties, militias, Fox News, Glenn Beck, etc.)

    7. Support for conspiracy theories and hate speech (see: Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Birthers, creationists, climate deniers, etc.)

    8. A right-wing blogosphere that is almost universally dominated by raging hate speech (see: Hot Air, Free Republic, Ace of Spades, etc.)

    9. Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.)

    10. Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source)

And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff.

I wonÂ’t be going over the cliff with them.

Sounds mostly like this guy is simply a social liberal (assuming he has been conservative to this point, he's likely economically conservative since almost everything here is social issues) and believes in respect for others (real criticism instead of mudslinging).

    Republicans are NOT conservative.

They are corporate owned and operated fear mongering shills pushing whatever makes the riche even richer at the expense of the middle class and the nation.

They owe no allegiance to anything but themselves and money.
Every noise they make about economic conservatism is outright lies, as can be seen by the results of 12 years of right wing ascendancy.

There were NO republicans distressed over how Bush was going to pay for things...
Because once in power, republicans simply have a free fro all with public funds, making themselves and their corporate handles rich.

The American public may finally be waking up to the true nature of the Republican ... and if fiscal conservatives REALLY want to get some voice back in government, its time to cut the republican loose and allow them to drift away on the raft of lunacy and extremism that they created.

the Gladiator of liars, Charles Johnson, defecting to the left....now he is indeed where he belongs.

He was an internation embarrasment to the Republican Party, constantly blogging false facts - being called on it even from abroad - and never making a retraction.

He is pathetic. Dems should welcome him with open arms.

Save this quote, as I'm sure you'll be using it for Michael Steele next.
But I digress, of course...

The only problem I have with that cliff is that it's not high enough.

One thing I have never understood is why the far right have such a strong hold on America. It is the one thing which is responsible for the general hatred and mistrust of America in the rest of the world. That and the conspicuous overconsumption, greed, hypocracy intolerance and ignorance :p

The cliff is indeed too short. The Republicans haven't hit bottom, yet.

They don't have as strong of a grip as it may seem.
They're just really, REALLY loud when things aren't going their way.

American politics in general has always struck me as being extremely naive watching American politicians is like watching 3 year olds talk about religion.

And it's not getting any better. It's not how high can you raise the bar or level of discussion but how low can you lower it? All in the name of ratings and money.
