Just what LPSG needed, it's own /r/atheism ...

But as long as we're on the subject, here's a relevant passage (Ezekial 23:20, NIV):

"There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses."

so edgy and brave

oh thank you, thats what i was going for as opposed to making myself chuckle. Cause its all about making an impression on you apparently. BTW this isnt 1950, saying the bible is fictitious is more accepted than not. I find stating bible versus's for irrelevant circumstances to be way more edgy and brave.

Maybe in the circles you hang out in. But not here on planet Earth. It is well known that the Bible is the best selling book of all time. A quick google shows that there are more than six billion in print. That's billion. With a "b."

It has been translated into more languages than any other book. Ever. Currently there is at least a new testament translation in 1,185 languages, with 1,300 languages in progress.

You may not like it. You may not respect it. But don't for a second believe that it is going away. Don't be such a disrespectful jerk to other people's beliefs.

And the word you are searching for is "verses."

Heres my belief, the bible just copied the standards of the Torah, which Judaism came way before Christianity. Here is an analogy of what this means to me:
If i came along with a book of recipes sent from the lord and everyone read them, sang them, and cooked them- thats fairly original, i might buy into it as an ancient man. But if a second guy showed up years later with the "real" book of lord recipes wouldnt you question that second guy? Let alone the first guy. But the second? He just copied the format of the first crazy guy. Then comes Islam, which took the same recipes from Christianity and called them something else.
Dont like that one? heres another. I have a magic egg from the lord, then years later another guy shows up with the "real" magic egg from the lord. and so on. Do you see the core of what i am saying? If the lord is real, it would have to be Judiasm if any of them by the fact of being first. The other religions were merely responding to Judaism. But Judiasm is BS to begin with. So its all bogus.

Oh. Well. I guess millions of people throughout recorded history have just been waiting for you to be born to tell 'em what's what. Pretty arrogant. And given the straw man (men?) you posted, it's pretty tough to respond intelligently.

But I will say, your lack of understanding of translation standards, and even the faith traditions you mock, is truly astonishing. You'd think a smart person would do a little research before painting with such a broad and flawed brush.

Not that it comes as any surprise, but you clearly haven't read the bible. Why do you even bother arguing when it's so blatantly obvious that you haven't understood a single word on the topic?

For which she had to die.

Sounds like Oholibah treated Ezekial to some unwanted SPH.

Actually this passage is a fairly good example of why some people think the bible is bunk.

The lord sounds like a schizo jealous murderer.

Ezekiel 23 NIV - Two Adulterous Sisters - The word of - Bible Gateway

Bonus points for there being a "Save Jerusalem" banner over the passage where the lord himself orchestrates it's destruction.

No further research required. Its an open and shut case. Judaism came first, the rest followed in design. keep it simple and to the point. I dont have time to dissect the bible no.

BTW sorry if you were offended that was not my intention. I was more or less making a joke by posting it in fictitious stories, i certainly didnt want to start a discussion. frankly its too big to discuss and i have no desire

Of the two, Judaism is the oldest, yes. But you are aware that the concept of religion existed many, many years before Judaism, right?

You don't seem to understand that your criticism of Christianity being a rip-off of Judaism makes no sense. Christianity and Judaism are intertwined. Without Judaism there would be no Christianity. The Torah is part of the Christian bible. The Jewish God is the same as the Christian God... Criticizing Christianity for being based on Judaism is just, well, kinda dumb. Of course it is. At its very core it is. This is no secret.

Religion is not about originality. It's about faith. But the story of The New Testament is obviously pretty amazing, and the message is extremely uplifting and unique. And to be honest, someone whose prime accomplishment is to call The Bible a fictitious story (which is, at least, partly untrue) kinda has no right to criticize anything for lacking originality, especially not the most read and influential book of all time.

I think it's fair and fine that you're an atheist. I characterize myself as an agnostic. But if you don't want to back up your opinions with at least a little bit of research, you shouldn't expect to come off as a very intellectual individual. And you shouldn't expect to be taken seriously at all.

You wanted to post something clearly controversial but not allow discussion. Gotcha.

That's cowardice, btw.
