Well first there was Richard Mellon Scaife who hated Clinton and financned a relentless campaign against him, his wife and his administration. Now we have the Koch Brothers who hate Obama and are financing another relentless campaign against a new democrate president.

Covert Operations

The billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama.

The Kochs are longtime libertarians who believe in drastically lower personal and corporate taxes, minimal social services for the needy, and much less oversight of industry—especially environmental regulation. These views dovetail with the brothers’ corporate interests. In a study released this spring, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Political Economy Research Institute named Koch Industries one of the top ten air polluters in the United States. And Greenpeace issued a report identifying the company as a “kingpin of climate science denial.” The report showed that, from 2005 to 2008, the Kochs vastly outdid ExxonMobil in giving money to organizations fighting legislation related to climate change, underwriting a huge network of foundations, think tanks, and political front groups. Indeed, the brothers have funded opposition campaigns against so many Obama Administration policies—from health-care reform to the economic-stimulus program—that, in political circles, their ideological network is known as the Kochtopus.
And then like now, it's working.

This has been a featured topic on Rachel Maddow over the last 1-2 weeks. Isn't it interesting what we learn once we ignore the propagated political tripe and the ideological rhetoric and start following the money trail like we're supposed to? It always leads to a few rich morons pressing the buttons and the millions of sheep who lick it all up. Perhaps this is the trickle down effect they were referring to? Maddow also exposed a similar thing going on in Arizona and the pushing of their immigration bill. Makes me glad that someone is willing to do the investigating and connect the dots out there.

Incredible. 3 huge billionaires bankrolling the tea party: Rupert Murdoch and 2 Koch brothers, David & Charles.

"All three tycoons are the latest incarnation of what the historian Kim Phillips-Fein labeled “Invisible Hands” in her prescient 2009 book of that title: those corporate players who have financed the far right ever since the du Pont brothers spawned the American Liberty League in 1934 to bring down F.D.R. You can draw a straight line from the Liberty League’s crusade against the New Deal “socialism” of Social Security, the Securities and Exchange Commission and child labor laws to the John Birch Society-Barry Goldwater assault on J.F.K. and Medicare to the Koch-Murdoch-backed juggernaut against our “socialist” president." (Frank Rich in NYT. He's got a link to this piece on the rich brothers waging war against Obama.)

I don't get it. Why aren't the real "populists" outraged by the tea party's push for government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich? Where are the conspiracy theorists with a story like this?

Why aren't people seeing the real agenda behind the "tea party"?

. . . the advocacy wing of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation—an organization that David Koch started, in 2004—held a different kind of gathering. Over the July 4th weekend, a summit called Texas Defending the American Dream took place . . . on this occasion the audience was roused not by a dance performance but by a series of speakers denouncing President Barack Obama. Peggy Venable, the organizer of the summit, warned that Administration officials “have a socialist vision for this country.”

Five hundred people attended the summit, which served, in part, as a training session for Tea Party activists in Texas. An advertisement cast the event as a populist uprising against vested corporate power. “Today, the voices of average Americans are being drowned out by lobbyists and special interests,” it said. “But you can do something about it.” The pitch made no mention of its corporate funders. The White House has expressed frustration that such sponsors have largely eluded public notice. David Axelrod, Obama’s senior adviser, said, “What they don’t say is that, in part, this is a grassroots citizens’ movement brought to you by a bunch of oil billionaires.”
Tools and fools. Tools and Fools!!!
And then like now, it's working.
So what will happen if, as expected, Republicans win control of the House? . . . they’re gearing up for a repeat performance of the 1990s, with a “wave of committee investigations” — several of them over supposed scandals that we already know are completely phony. We can expect the G.O.P. to play chicken over the federal budget, too; I’d put even odds on a 1995-type government shutdown sometime over the next couple of years.

It will be an ugly scene, and it will be dangerous, too. The 1990s were a time of peace and prosperity; this is a time of neither. In particular, we’re still suffering the after-effects of the worst economic crisis since the 1930s, and we can’t afford to have a federal government paralyzed by an opposition with no interest in helping the president govern. But that’s what we’re likely to get.

If I were President Obama, I’d be doing all I could to head off this prospect, offering some major new initiatives on the economic front in particular, if only to shake up the political dynamic. But my guess is that the president will continue to play it safe, all the way into catastrophe.
Where the hell is my president? Stand up goddammit!!! :cussing2:

Actually, I agree. Sargon put up that thread like six hours before this one.

The most cursory search would have turned it up.

He even sources one of the same articles, plus two others.

Thread merge anyone?

Because they'e not people, they're sheeple, and they only trust dumbed-down media to tell them what they already want to hear. They happily lap up tasty chocolate pudding the straight talkin radio guy and the dolled up teevee bimbo dish out to them. No smartass liberal elite like Frank Rich is gonna tell them it's really just warmed over shit.

And don't leave the Republican party out of your equation. The "tea party" are just their storm troopers.

But the rich have always ruled America. That's the way it's always been. Everything else is just smoke up our ass.
True to varying degrees at various periods, but we're teetering on the edge of catastrophe. The gap between rich and poor hasn't been this great in 80 years, and it's widening. You know what happened 80 years ago?
The Great Depression. Hello! Anyone who's convinced we're out of the woods is foolhardy.

These corporate gluttons, these modern day robber barons won't be satisfied till they've pushed us into total financial collapse and subsequent social destruction - and all just to maximize short term profits. What do they care if they kill the golden goose, as long as they get the last egg?

Masters and minions. Fools and tools.

I guess I just lack the gene whereby those who possess said gene get sent into a greatly elevated state of disturbance when they come a cross a thread that addresses an issue that's already being discussed in another thread.

However, I did apparently get the gene that gets annoyed at people aggressively calling out people who post "duplicate" threads.

Call them out!

Maybe somewhere, someone already posted a gripe-y reply like this one. Shall I paddle myself?:redface::wink:

I don't know but I really hope he has given up the fools errand of bipartisanship. These are not rational people.

We've all seen Tallguy being aggressive and/or greatly elevated, but I don't see that here at all. I think he was being quite sensible and reasonable. This is a vitally important topic, and the discussion would be greatly diluted if it were split into two virtually simultaneous threads.

Yes you should, and we'd all like to watch. Could you please post the time you'll be in cam chat?

I must have been channeling bygone days.
