This thread is where bitter republicans can come to whine about the fact that they made the worst possible choice for a candidate. It isn't our fault you didn't nominate Romney, the only formidable choice.

They are bereft of ideas. They defend racism and hate. This election really has shown an ugly side to this country. The rest of the world can read these words and judge for themselves. This election was dragged into the sewer by Rick Davis and the McCain campaign. He doesn't even apologize for it. He just whines that, if only Barack Obama had agreed to some town hall meetings I wouldn't have shit all over the process and invoke lies about terrorists, lies about his religion, lies about liberal community activists. It's all Obama's fault, don't you see?

What a crushing disappointment. I honestly used to RESPECT John McCain. Worse yet, I honestly thought that MOST Republicans were decent people. But now it appears that there are a huge number that can be stampeded into fear and loathing by Sarah Sixpack and John NoShame.

You know it's bad when the sore losers come out even before they've lost. We should all take a page out of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and buck the trolls hiding under the bridge. Flame on flamers, flame on.

I'm neither Democrat or Republican, but I do believe McCain should have been elected 8 years ago instead of Curious George -- with provisions (no Rumsfeld, no Cheney, no Scooter Libby). If McCain loses this election it will be an embarrassing defeat for an otherwise good guy. It's so sad to be back in the USA and see how his campaign has been forced to grab at elusive straws rather than run on real issues. I was somewhat amused to discover that CNN had vetted Joe Plumber as an unlicensed plumber with about U$S1,100 arrears in back taxes. In short, a dead beat.

As I type this I'm hearing Palin and McCain rant on TV about Obama as being a Socialist when, point of fact, the Republicans have just taken steps to socialize (nationalize?) AIG, Mae and Mac, private investment banks and the "free" economy that they've allowed to disappear on the GOP's watch. The biggest socialist move in the country's history! How a Republican can still say Democrats are "tax and spend" with a straight face in lieu of the current economic situation is beyond me, unless "borrow and spend" seems a better alternative. And all this time I thought elephants never forgot. Sigh.

Not to mention the "socialist" economic stimulus package currently being recommended

It's hard to decide hypotheses contrary to historical fact, but certainly the John McCain who ran in 2000 had more going for him than the John McCain that we have seen in this election, and even if he had made the same compromises in 2000 that he has made in this round, he would have been a less disastrous president than Clueless George has been. But for that scenario to have come to pass, Karl Rove would have had to drop dead or otherwise get removed from the picture.

About 7 months ago when Barak was still battling Hillary for the nomination, Bill Maher brought up "what do you think might happen if Barak Obama actually wins the nomination?" His response -- "Wait until the Republican slime machine gears up against him." And my FIRST thought was, "my God, how proud can you be of your party when one of the things they are known for is a "slime" machine?" In Michael Moore's book "Hey dude, where's my country?" he states, (and I loosely quote): I don't get it! The Republicans hold both the Presidency AND both Houses of Congress and listen to them -- they're frustrated and angry! If the Democrats held the Presidency and BOTH Houses of Congress they'd be happier than pigs in crap! I think it's an extremely SAD commentary on the degeneration of American politics when the opposition party is labled "the enemy." No wonder you've got politicians running around now making claims about the "real" America (which translated means "our" America)! Republicans will never accept a pluralistic society unless they can have control over it. And they're REAL bitterness is rooted in the fact that the over 65 year olds will be gone in 25 years while the younger generation is overwhelmingly moving into the ideological "progressive" (God I hate that word "liberal") camp! McCain represents the old America of the Vietnam era past and Obama represents the new rising hope filled America of possibilities!

man, I wonder if Obama would have ANY support, if his supporters had ever studied history

Obama represents nothing new

see: Parties and Elections in America, by Louis Sandy Maisel, Mark D. Brewer

from page 342:

...Bill Clinton ran as an outsider, taking his cue from Jimmy Carter, who had run and won that way sixteen years earlier. He wanted to change the way things were in Washington -- to spark the economy, to end the gridlock of divided government and get things done, to rid Washington of those who had been there too long ... He wanted to be the candidate for a new generation, the candidate who looked to make changes for the future. (emphasis added)

1. poor sportsmanship

2. Our bitter republicans seem to be making their own threads instead of using the one you made for them.

No surprise at all. One thread could not hold all the slime.

They could really care less. The entire goal is simply winning. Period. The ends justify the means. Karl Rove driven to the nth degree. When the Justice Department of all departments was turned into a political machine meant to go after democrats they didn't care one bit.

As for the anger Rosa Brooks of the LA Times said it best:

Paranoid, rage-driven, xenophobic nuts are taking over the Republican Party.
...as the last few sober grown-ups leave the party, the visible face of the GOP increasingly looks like that of the people who shout "kill him!" when Obama's name comes up, who speak of black men they don't like as "uppity" or as "boys," who think you can't trust a Muslim or an Arab, who think talking about "Barack Hussein Osama" is witty and (I'm talking to you, Sarah Palin and John McCain) who claim Obama "pals around with terrorists.

Is that why they need so many threads threads denouncing supposed "liberal/commies/socialists" to quote any number of "republicans" here?

I do believe Rosa is right.

I've studied history. And I've certainly studied enough history to know what happens to countries with an unrestrained executive.
