What's going on with the border camps? How is this happening? And don't just blame it on Trump. We know he's a douche nozzle. What about all the thousands of people below him? Are they just doing nothing to help? Republicans and Democrats alike.
If the conditions are truly as deplorable as they are reported to be, I'm starting to think the Democrats are complicit in this--that instead of fixing it they're leveraging it for political purposes.

Explanation, please--and again, don't shit all over Trump because that's not a legit explana

Actually that is the 'legit' explanation. Sorry if it offends you.

Top Utah newspaper says Trump migrant detention centers are 'concentration camps'

Conditions at migrant detention centers are ‘horrendous.’ Trump, Pence blame Democrats.

President Shitwaist claims he cannot change Obama's policy, even though this was not an Obama policy. The administration argued today in Federal Court that children are not entitled to toothbrushes, blankets or mattresses. The sleep on a concrete floor with a sheet of foil for a blanket. The children are denied showers, clothing and basic medical attention. 10 year olds take care of two years olds - no adult care providers. A Congresswoman from Texas, while touring a border station found an undisclosed steel building with no windows holding 300 kids. This is all on Trump. It is a disgrace and possibly a violation of international law, as well as American law.

This is all on Trump.

Exactly. Amazing isn't it how all disasters on Republican president's watch are somehow democrat disasters and when a democrat is president well there are no disasters to assign blame.

President Trump’s immigration policy has crossed the line from gratuitous cruelty to flat-out sadism. Perhaps he enjoys seeing innocent children warehoused in filth and squalor. Perhaps he thinks that’s what America is all about. Is he right, Trump supporters? Is he right, Republicans in Congress? Is this what you want?

A team of lawyers, tasked with monitoring the administration’s compliance with a consent decree on the treatment of migrant children, managed to gain access to a Customs and Border Protection detention center in Clint, Tex., last week. The lawyers were not allowed to tour the facility but were able to interview more than 50 of the estimated 350 children being held there.

“The conditions within which they are held could be compared to torture facilities,” Lucio Sevier wrote.

Trump and Vice President Pence responded with lies (blaming the Obama administration), deflection (blaming Democrats in Congress) and lots of oleaginous faux concern. But this is a humanitarian crisis of Trump’s making. A president who panders to his base by seizing billions of dollars from other programs to build a “big, beautiful wall” also panders to his base by cruelly treating brown-skinned migrant children like subhumans.

Do not look away. This is the reality of Trump’s America. Deal with it.

This is the reality of Trump’s America
Recall that this is a "For Profit" prison company that contributes heavily to the GOP and has John Kelly on the board. They charge us $750 per day to keep a kid and then don't feed them or give them blankets or sanitary supplies.

Looks like $748 of pure profit per kid per day.

For the same amount we could put each kid in a decent hotel and hire a full time babysitter.

We always wonder how the Germans could have allowed all the atrocities to happen? The systematic abuse, torture, and murder of Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, and Russian POWs and others -- how could the German people let this happen? Now we see how it happens close up.

Sargon.

Thank you for such relevant information. Once again, the US has shit all over its own self just like the US has done in the past. When studying US history we learn about the Trail of Tears by General turned President Jackson. His position as one of the great presidents must be based on his historic defeat of the British during the War of 1812, not on the Trail or Tears whose purpose was to have as many Native Americans die on the forced migration trail as possible. The farms that the Native Americans had developed were wanted by some with European ancestors.

We were led to believe that the US as a nation now knew better and we would never let this happen again.

We have done it again.

A tragedy that can't be undone is in the making. Sooner or later, and most likely sooner, a child from one of these concentration camps will get very sick. There will be no choice but to take the child to the emergency room or let the child die. The emergency room personnel will have to follow state and federal law. This may be the issue that sinks the Trump presidency. If it does, it will sink Pince's vice presidency as well as Pence has been foolish enough to publicly go on record as supporting this catastrophe.

In the state where I reside, Children's Services is required by law to investigate cases that are turned in to them. I didn't know until now that this facility was being run by a for profit prison company. I thought that the federal government was running it themselves and with limited funds.

The CEO and on down for the for profit prison company should be charged with child endangerment, cruelty to children and every other violation of Texas' law for agencies taking care of minors. The whole lot of them should serve several years of prison time in the very facilities they operate.

But, no, that isn't what will happen. A few hourly waged employees will be selected to be the scapegoats. These minimum wage employees will be the ones to go to prison for this. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Again. Thanks for the pertinent information. When I read how much the for profit prison company is charging, my blood boiled. For $750 a day, these children could stay somewhere in Orlando and spend all of each day at Disney World.

I can take care of two at my house. Somehow, someway, I think I could if I was very efficient with money be able to take care of them for $1500 a day and have just a small amount for profit for myself!

What is also very tragic is that if these children were fair skinned, were blue eyed with had blond hair, we would not treat them this way.

A goal of these concentration camps is to get the word back to the nations where these people came from. Perhaps, people would decide not to come to America if they find out how their children will be treated once they have come into the United States. The goal will be to discourage parents bringing children into the US as the penalty will be to serve time in one of these concentration camps, perhaps until age 18 when they will be taken back to their native nation.

As an American citizen, I am very much infuriated by these Trump children's concentration camps. That is what they are. I am not going to sugarcoat it.

Apology accepted.

But you mean to tell me that all those thousands of federal employees are powerless to do anything about it? Not a single one is capable of doing anything to make an improvement? They're all just sitting on their asses saying, "Mr. Trump said we can't, so I reckon we can't."? That's bullshit. Not a single one will approve a purchase order for blankets?

Did you catch the part that it's run by a PRIVATE company? Apparently not.

Representative Pramila Jayapal, Democrat of Washington and a co-chairwoman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, said she had reached an agreement on the House floor with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others to include a provision in the bill that would require government contractors operating temporary shelters to meet strict standards of care within six months or lose their contract. Ms. Jayapal said she would wait to see the final bill language but anticipated that the agreement would bring many of her colleagues on board.

WASHINGTON — The House pressed toward a vote Tuesday evening on an emergency $4.5 billion humanitarian aid bill to address the plight of migrants at the border, as Democratic leaders appeared confident they had quelled a rebellion in their ranks by adding new health and safety requirements for children and adults held by the government.

A group of liberals and Hispanic-American lawmakers had threatened to withhold their backing for the bill because they fear that the aid package would enable President Trump’s immigration crackdown.

House Democrats Move to Rein In Trump’s Immigration Crackdown
Of course House Republicans are against any requirements that the funding be used for the humane treatment of the children. The Republicans, almost to a man (and woman) support Trump and Miller’s inhumane policies — as does their base. As far as these people are concerned, if children have brown skin, it’s OK to tear them away from their parents. starve them, let them sleep on concrete floors and so on. So don’t be confused. This is about Trump and his minions, but it is also about endemic racism in America. The inhumanity these people proffer makes them, well, inhuman.

Unfortunately, that's the way the Federal Government works. When any Administration takes office, Agency Heads are nominated and confirmed by the Senate. These folks are normally loyalists to the President and the party. And usually gave lots of $$$ during the campaign. That's why you might see someone with say, no experience in education, running the Education Department. Or someone gets a cushy Ambassador post. $$$

Agency Heads take their marching orders from the White House; usually overseen by an Agency liaison who works at the WH. These are also political operatives whose job is to ensure the President's Agenda is implemented. Regardless of how the Agency Head and its employees may feel.

When an Agency Head is perceived as not fully on board, that's when you start to see little nuggets being leaked to the Press. And then that person usually ends up resigning. Once in a while one is fired. But that is rare. Or used to be.

Perhaps it's why we've seen so much turnover among the political appointees in the current Administration. Some were forced out because they became distractions (EPA and Interior Chiefs for example). But not because they weren't doing the President's bidding.

Others leave because they can't support what they are being asked to implement; what they are required to do. Others are forced out because the President is unhappy with their performance. We've seen many examples of that over the last 2 1/2 years.

If blankets and soap and food and every other thing you can think of that would indeed help to take care of the folks in the detention centers were approved, the order would come from the top and then be implemented.

Career folks who would do what you suggest would risk their jobs. Their careers. And in my experience, they would be disciplined. Including being fired. Yes, there is the Whistleblower Act. Which we've seen doesn't often have the teeth necessary to protect those who do "blow the whistle". Especially since the Federal Agency who oversees such cases is helmed with an Administration official. And I've known of cases to languish for years. Meanwhile the employee is unemployed.

Federal Government procurement is rife with rules and regulations. It's also ripe for manipulation; it's why you'll see contracts awarded often to Administration cronies. Who then implement what the Administration seeks to accomplish. And it can take years for contract challenges to wind their way through the process.

Like in this case. The folks running these detention Centers are contracted to the Government. As such, they implement what they are told to do. By an Administration Political. And bet that these contractors got the contracts because they would do just that. And bet they are most likely somehow tied to someone in the Administration.

I retired as the Director of Administration & Management. I was a career employee. I saw a lot of what I mention first-hand. The stories I could tell...

I *wish* I could say that I'm shocked that this is all happening, but I'm not... And it is basically Trump's doing. He is the root cause of this, he could end it tomorrow. But he won't. He'll keep imprisoning these kids in these concentration camps and he'll keep blaming Obama for it, and his base will eat it the fuck up.

At some point you have to grab the bull by the tail and face the situation squarely. I wouldn't be able to come home from work every day and look at my own family and say, "Don't worry. In two to six years this will all be past us."

At some point the base has got to get a grip on reality. How far can he push them?

I really don't think they have a breaking point.

He really could shoot someone in the middle of Time Square and they would still chant his name and vote for him in the booth..

I really think so.

You're making the mistake of thinking like a person with a conscience.

These people don't. His whole goddamn administration. We gave the keys to a narcissist sociopath and he hired a whole lotta people who remind him of himself.

His base feels an existential threat from all those immigrants and only he can save them. With that in mind they will allow and forgive anything. This is happening all over the world as the world shrinks and shrinks and peoples that never before had to live together must now live together. We are finding we are not as evolved as we thought.
