Does anyone remember when it finally became normal to create porn without the music? It was so tedious and annoying. I always wondered why they found it necessary. It's so much more arousing to hear real sounds people make. No brainer.

I've always thought it was because porn back in the day was basically recorded with basic camcorders and would pick up any background noises. Post production was basically just making copies to VHS tapes. So you need music to mask the noise. And when digital recording became a thing it was easier to edit out the background noises.

Not even camcorders. Early porn was recorded on 8mm film that had no sound, so the music was later dubbed in. When it was understood that people wanted to hear voices/sounds they dubbed them in post filming: the guys would be watching the movie and simulating the sounds and more often than not they never quite synced. Of course this was before the major studios got in on the action and actually advertised that their films had real sound. That wasn't necessarily a great thing because it led to guys like Jeff Stryker saying over and over again, "You like that big cock, don't you."
