One thing I like about Holland is that I don’t feel so tall there. I was there recently and noticed yet again the number of men around the 2meter mark.

There have been lots of articles on the Dutch as the tallest nationality (http://www.leonardbeeghley.com/docs/SYG 2010/Bilger, height gap.pdf, or
www.lrz.de/~u5152ak/webserver/webdata/press/limburg.pdf for those who prefer Dutch) and I was wondering whether the Dutch were also the tallest on LPSG.

I think Flemings would possibly come a close second – any ideas about that ?

    I’m 1 m 95 – but French, so I don’t count (just to start the ball rolling)

    What an interesting observation
I love the Dutch also we have had a great many in NZ from the 50s onwards, i have always considered them a tall race,.
MAY have had something to do with my warped sexual thinking of the time, re Tall people = LP..sis, ha
When travelling thru Holland TALL was evident also, lovely peoples.

Funnily the elder ones i have spoken to in these latter years, sort of say
    You like the Dutch?
Some of us are not so good?
get angry quick etc, real puzzling speak, ha
i am figuring it may stem from hard times suffered during WW2?
    for that Gen at least.
just my thoughts? i dont think the younger generations are like that at all.

Whoever wrote that has a political agenda. It's a myth that the U.S. had some outstanding longevity at any time. Canada and western Europe generally had a higher LE than the U.S as far back as records go and Canada has a lower height average than the U.S.

I'm Flemish, and although we speak the same language, we are averagely a lot shorter. I would guess Swedes or Norwegians come second.

The Dutch ones from the Netherlands are indeed tall. No doubt about that. I know many and they are almost all tall.
I don't think the Dutch from Belgium (the Flemish) comes second, but our people aren't small either. Appearantly I heard that the Flemish are quite great, even on lpsg

Yeah it's terrrifying visiting the Netherlands, as much as I adore the place, the fellas are HUGE! I feel like a genetically deficient dwarf whenever I visit, not only are the guys towering but they all seem to be fit as fuck and hot as hell! Droooool!

When I moved from Denmark to Sweden, I immediately noticed that all the furniture was made for larger people! I spent time in other parts of Europe too, but in NL and DE you meet a fair mix of short and tall, just like in Denmark. And in Sweden I met lots of short people too. It's just the furniture that seemed different. Don't know the statistics.

Similarly I met Brits of all dimensions. The very tallest person I ever met was actually Ying Biao the basketball player.

I did once meet a very short Dutchman whose wife was gorgeous and six feet tall. Their kids were average height, which reminds me of myself, the product of a short woman and a tall man.

Born and raised in the US... family background is German, french, and native american (as well as a few others, but those are what I can remember)... I'm 6' 7" tall (according to google (I'm no good at conversions) that makes me 2.0066 meters tall).

I also think it's interesting how new this is. Wasn't it just a few decades ago when the Dutch were merely average-height for Europeans? Has medical care improved that much or is it something in the water?

I'm Dutch! And about 1.90 meters... that would be 6.2 I guess? And I'm slightly above average here... there are a lot of tall guys... but still I don't feel that the Dutch is the "giant" Nation :) Also a lot of little people here ;)
