Lately a lot of people are confused where people are located when they speak Dutch.
To solve that mistery
I start this thread.
When I chat with people on here and I tell them that my native language is Dutch, they immidiatly think that I'm located in the Netherlands.
Now, here are some facts :biggrin1:
If you look at the map of Europe, you will see that (suprisingly) The Netherlands are located next too Belgium.
In The Netherlands they speak Dutch, but in Belgium we also speak Dutch, but because we have a different accent, we will say that we speak Flemish. But Flemish is Dutch.
Belgium also have two big areas (one part in the north of Belgium and one on the south), those are Flanders and Wallony. Flanders is located in the north of Belgium and next too The Netherlands. Wallony is located in south of Belgium and next too France.
The people who live in Flanders speak, read this well, Flemish or Dutch with an accent . The people located in Wallony speak French.
Now we are also located next too Germany and Luxembourg so the east part of Belgiums speaks German.
So if you see what our languages are in our country, you also see that we are multilingual. But our native language is Dutch, then French and then German and we also have to learn English (because we are located next too the UK if you forget the sea between us :wink
Hope this will make things clear
