Tom Nichols is professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College and an (unashamed) expert
In his new book, "The Death of Expertise," he argues that low levels of foundational knowledge have mixed with an epidemic of narcissism to make Americans resentful of expertise.
people are more misinformed than uninformed
"At some point we got it in our heads that every opinion is worth the same. I have been criticized for ridiculing that idea. But it is an idea worth ridiculing."
...the internet offers "an apparent shortcut to erudition," one that "allows people to mimic intellectual accomplishment by indulging in an illusion of expertise provided by a limitless supply of facts. Facts, as experts know, are not the same as knowledge or ability.
What does "The Death of Expertise" mean for fact-checkers?

Haha. I wish I knew. I didn’t find reading it all , probably would have made it more interesting.
The concept [of] :
Encouraging people to dismiss facts. [Proven]
in itself, is not some harmless....
(Haha ..Thats retarded)
Try figuring out the unproven facts and reasoning in your messages. I think a little tedious work would be good for you.
Also what is a social sickness ?
“Today, we have multiple factions putting themselves forward as what Gauchat describes as their own cultural domains, “generating their own knowledge base that is often in conflict with the cultural authority of the scientific community.” Some are religious groups (challenging evolution, for instance). Some are industry groups (as with climate skepticism). Others tilt more to the left (such as those that reject the medical establishment). As varied as these groups are, they are all alike in one way. They all harbor sacred beliefs that they do not consider open to question.
To defend those beliefs, few dismiss the authority of science. They dismiss the authority of the scientific community. People don’t argue back by claiming divine authority anymore. They argue back by claiming to have the truer scientific authority. It can make matters incredibly confusing.”

Haha ... and yeah I agree what’s the message?!

Ah, but you have no evidence, in and of yourself. that any scientific "fact" is true or false--you palce faith in someone calling themselves a scientist who tells you HE proved it a fact, but there are very few people who know anything themselves. Do you know the Earth is a globe? No, you trust another human being . . . Do you know a lander is right now on Mars? No, you trust another human being . . . A true scientist would never say anything is a "proven fact" until they themselves proved it to themselves . . . Always question all knowledge--if people hadn't, they would still believe the sun revolved around the earth . . . or maybe it does--we just believe what someone else says about that to--lol . . .Fair enough. I myself find them annoying, I find them tedious and look at them like a social sickness.
Some are harmless but the concept of encouraging people to dismiss Proven Facts in itself is not.

Actually it does--unless an experiment can be repeated it isn't accepted as fact--therefore, a true scientist doesn't accept anything on faith as "proven" until it is proven to them . . . and even then they hold a part of their brain open to the possibility that all that they know is rubbish if proven so . . .
Science.
Doesn't.
Work.
Like.
That.

So every person who speaks of this topic has to be a graduated scientist with credentials and have performed multiple experiments and extended research?
This has been studied at length and has been proven and verified by people who aren't relying on their fuckin camera taking pics of the ocean.
I'm crawling out of this rabbit hole. You guys have fun.
Boom, our flat earth evidence wins.
HARD PROVABLE SCIENCE 2 and 3:
The horizon line ALWAYS remains flat and at EYE LEVEL no matter how high up in a plane you go.
That would be impossible on a sphere, because as we went up the curve however slight would be ever more visible.
and no matter where you are on the oceans, it always remains flat.
Some claim they see the ocean appearing flat, some claim they see it "curved" (no they really don't)
So let's go to standard video and photo, NOT fishtail lenses or specialized cameras.
Let's see what non-eye-biased photo evidence says about it.
What do cameras and videos record?
A completely flat horizon line of the ocean 360 degrees around.
Standard telescopes pointed horizontally verify the same exact thing. A FLAT horizon.

HARD PROVABLE SCIENCE: 1
1 of countless proofs the earth is overall flat and NOT spherical.
The proofs will just keep getting posted one after the other. Let's see if any flat earth deniers can post one shred of provable physical evidence that the earth is spherical.
1ST PROOF that the earth is flat and that gravity is NOT in the center of a core but equally distributed over the entire plane surface.
ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING:
FACT Engineers and architects when building or planning huge ass tall skyscrapers do not ever need to calculate the earth's curvature to ensure 100% straight vertical sides to their tall buildings.
If the earth was a sphere, they would absolutely have to calculate that all the way up as the tallest skyscrapers would have to widen as they are built taller. As 4 plum bobs lifted hundreds of feet into the air would all widen from each other the further from the earth's surface they are lifted up IF the earth was actually a sphere. That would lead to the tallest buildings being slightly visually
wider at the top IF they had perfectly straight sides in all four corners.
Feel free to disprove this science. No one has yet to date, not even engineers or scientists.
NONE have scientifically disproven the facts I have just listed above.
If its so easy to disprove, why has no one done it?
The false claim that "the curvature isn't noticed at those heights has also been disproven. As any scientist that is legitimate will confirm that ANY amount of curvature no matter how small down to the millimeter would affect the construction process and have to be calculated AND would be calculatable with even stone age technology. So today it should be especially provable.
There there I have given you science, please feel free to solidly disprove it.
We will be happily awaiting what you find to the contrary.
Typing barbs or insults ain't gonna fly.
I've posted evidence now its your turn. GO
Bingo, you have described the exactly healthy scientific skepticism and intellectual honesty of every single person I know who is labeled a "conspiracy theorist" including myself.
A more accurate term people could call us would be "scientific skeptics".
Those of us who do not accept scientific claims as fact unless we ourselves can back them up too with solid experiments.
