The fashion industry is run by women and gay men, which suggests they are not attracted to the female form - hence their obsession with tall and flat-chested women.

How is the fashion industry any more of a joke than the porn industry or any other industry?

The porn industry produces something of value, and isn't so full of self-important twats.

You're just make a snitty judgment call. I know you're more thoughtful than that, unless Tommy Hilfiger personally pissed you off for no reason.

You've got two kinds of fashion out there: (1) stuff designed and intended for people to wear out in public and (2) haute couture, which really doesn't have much of a good place outside of the runway. The former is intentional and want for consumption; it keeps us dressed. The latter might deserve just a little bit of the scorn generated in this thread, not much, and it's rather a place for designers to show off to one another.

I don't think fashion is really about helping people navigate changes in style. Honestly, the same stuff just recirculates every couple of decades or so, tweaked and modified. Bell bottoms aren't that distant a cousin (prob even a sibling) from boot-cut jeans now. I think there are some really creative minds that are trying to push some style boundaries and such, but those people are often pretty invisible. I'm still waiting for torn-up jeans to die a painful death already.

Don't get me wrong. There's a lot of stuff out there I wouldn't wear, just because it's not really my style or it doesn't complement me. I don't take issue with things that aren't my style. They're other people's choices.

On the contrary, I think if you get hold of real people that have a passion and an eye for good taste and design, then maybe you'd be a little more forgiving of them. Maybe it's the public figures and the Queer Eye guys that get a little nauseating after all, but c'mon. You guys know better than to make a judgment call, and I'm still waiting for someone to elaborate on why, exactly, fashion is all that bad.

Hell, you won't see any [literal] imploding assholes or ugly hairy ass on a runaway... (unless it's some sort of gimmick that day).

I don't see too many people walking around naked though. Seems to me fashion industry does produce something of value as we are all a part of it. I'm not sure everyone is into watching Racks and Blacks, 8th Street Latinas, or my personal fav blacksonblondes.com.

Aren't porn people self important twats themsleves in a way (nopun)?? Like "Hey, look at me I can't do shit else to make money in this world but I have a giant cock and so watch me fuck with it!", or "heyyy I can't make it in modeling or acting but I have big fake tits and can take 10 inches of man meat watch!"

Fashion is also a method to express oneself, much like music or art.

(for the record I have nothing against using a big dick to make money or porn in general, just playing devils ad)

If I was getting to choose fabrics and styles to show off Bryce and Skull to advantage, I might enjoy being in that industry...

A friend of mine Gordon was picking up a hat for his Mother (she was in her 80's) and the bill was like 395.00 or something from and old fashioned hat maker in a tony little shop. GORDON SAID 'MOTHER DO YOU REALLY NEED A 400.00 HAT AT THIS POINT IN YOUR LIFE"? she replied "Gordie if you can't be in style you might as well be dead"!

I tend to be ambivalent about fashion. Much of it is silly and pretentious yet it serves very important social functions beyond just providing our bodies protection.

When I was a kid I somehow got to go to the opening of the Fashion Institute at the Metropolitan Museum. The exhibit was of classic Chinese costumes from the Imperial period and I found it fascinating. Not only were the clothes extraordinarily beautiful, but the needlework was simply astonishing. The exquisite craftsmanship that went into producing this work was difficult to believe.

I saw something similar when I watched the Spring 2008 Paris couture show. The clothes were just magnificent, much of it made using traditional handcrafted European techniques now nearly lost. Whether the clothing would ever be worn by anyone, I don't know, but I admired the remarkable skill of the dressmakers.

Fashion is important. We poo-poo it, yet much of our social interaction is based on what we choose to wear and what the pieces mean. We choose different clothing for different occasions as we choose what to eat, drive, or where we live. Well-tailored clothes flatter our figures, enhance our assets, minimize our flaws. Socially clothes speak volumes as well. Via fashion we can determine a person's social status, societal function, and tell others what are feelings are or how we feel.

There you go, Jason. Thoughtful post... typically we guys give a knee-jerk reaction: ew, fashion, run the other way! Clothed or not, we do exhibit some degree of fashion every time we present ourselves in front of others.

All I can say is if you poo-poo fashion then tell me you'd be just fine with Uncle Arnie showing-up to your wedding wearing Uggs, in a stained wifebeater, and bright red hotpants hanging half off his ass.

    Thank you.

Dissing fashion is quite fashionable (whoops, did I say that?) as always. Fashion has its place. Personal style cannot be created without an element of fashion. People who know what looks good on them and wear it well always catch my eye more than the person wearing ultratrendy clothing that is ill-fitting or doesn't suit them.
