The French release a study on average penis size

I just found this in the news and thought I would share here.

The French surgical Academy just released a study where it says an average penis measures between 9 and 9.5 cm (flacid) and 12,8 and 14, 5 (erect). Circumference would be 8,5/9 cm (flacid) to 10/10,5 cm when erect.

The study was carried out due to the apparent increase in men asking for penis enlargement surgery in recent years.

These results are much more reflective of any locker room real life sample.
Some of the studies end up with averages that just don't reflect reality.
Sure there are variations and yes there are some guys that are really packing but not most.
So guys who are under the impression that they got short changed cause they don't hang 7" soft, next time you're in the locker room you don't have to change under your towel cause you only hang 4 inches soft, whip off the towel and join most of the other guys that are hung just like you...average.

I wouldn't say it was known and verified. Most other "studies" / spokespersons say the average penis is "between 5 and 7 inches" when erect.

Whereas this study is saying that the "normal" or average penis is only 5.7" at the upper limit. Also the girth in this study is lower than the girth in other studies. Other studies go as high as 4.75"+ whereas this one does not.

This study seems more accurate.

I have no experience with erect penises outside porn (and my own) so I'm not exactly the best person to judge, but 4" seems low to me. yeah I agree with mongo, 4 cinh girth does seem rather thin, I'd always assumed erect girth average was about 5 inches. ALthough, since I've come to the site i realise there's a lot less variation in girth then there is in length plus the deviations between average/small/huge etc seem a lot smaller for girth then length.

Also does anyone know if the study measures BPEL or NBPEL?
I can't read french and the newspaper article doesn't say.

If you look at any nude group photo on line ( runners, streakers, beach shot) or take a quick look around a major change room what you see without whipping out your tape is pretty well what this study suggests are the average.
We here are somewhat warped as we are not the average and we are the minority in varying degrees from somewhat above to quite a bit above but again not like most of any group.

I agree guys should be relaxed in a locker room, I'm only three or four soft and have seen guys hung and nobody came along made any comments and I didnt care either I was there to enjoy my time at the gym. this was after I finished high school and I met four different guys I knew and all were nicely hung but we were still friends.

I remember there being a previous study that put French men as the longest in the world. Comparing country to country is silly because you'd have to compare study to study, and studies vary by as much/more than the standard deviation in a lot of cases.

Looks like when it's a medically supervised study, once again the average dicks are in the low 5".

The girth measurement does seem a little lower than usual -- I'm wondering if this has to do with the tension on the tape? I think nearly everyone here just wraps the tape around, but if you tighten it you'd measure a little smaller.

thats probabaly it but that would lead to ncertainty since people with harder erections would lose less girth when measured that way as the tape would press in less.
does the study say anything on the methods they used?

also the concept of an 'average' penis size is completely brainfucked by outliers

I've always been of the opinion that studies purporting to show "average" length and girth are bound to be skewed. My thinking is that size is such a hot topic that men willing to let themselves be measured by strangers are more likely to be a little bigger than men with smaller penises. There is so much emphasis (at least in America) on being big, and conversely that being average/small is a bad thing that I think the average/small guys would shy away from the studies. Not that I'm saying smaller guys should be embarrassed, but rather I think society and porn are so inundated with big cock that men average and below are more likely to stay away from the studies.

The vast majority of what I've read suggests that the average is either 6 inches long or "between 5 and 7" inches, which is another way of saying 6. I always take that into account when I consider it (which is obviously way too much). End result is that I think average length is probably closer to 5.25-5.75 inches. I haven't seen alot of information on girth, so I withhold my opinion there.

In any case, it's nice to see a study that is willing to give a firm number instead of a range and fits with my own theory that most of the studies are skewed larger.

I don't think I've ever even seen a 4" girth penis.

The length could be right, but ... I'd feel more comfortable if I heard it was closer to 6".

Not statistically valid. cam4 guys are a self selected bunch and by their nature (exhibitionists) are likely to be bigger than the mean for the population in general.

I think that if we carefully look at a ruler it would help readjust/realign our perception of length. We would see more accurately just how long 5.5" is and realize that it probably is more reflective of the average than some of the studies (most of which are flawed in sample selection).
Same goes with the circumference, 4.2" doesn't sound like much but if you measure a few objects again, it likely isn't that far off.
Many of the stats are based on self measurement and we know from looking at shots on this site that some people stating they are 9x6 have to be using a magic tape but if we see numbers often enough we begin to think they are the norm.
All that though does in no way negate the fact that many exceed the averages given and especially so here at LPSG which kind of stands to reason. We just shouldn't lose sight of average or how most guys are equipped.

Totally agree! Problem with any study that attempts to average all males: The data only includes men who were willing to be measured. Ideally, every man on earth would be measured BY THE SAME PERSON VIA THE SAME TECHNIQUE to get the true average. Yeah that's a bit of a stretch but with something as variable as penis size, trying to tell what "normal" is by using an average of a few people who volunteer to be measured is just stupid. Personally, I think they should do a full on stat crunch of the numbers they get. Mean, Median, Mode, and standard deviation from the mean just to make sure the data isn't skewed.

The only thing that is reassuring in this study is the fact that the average penis size is approximately the same as the average size found various times before (give or take 5.5 inches erect). It's called convergence of evidence.

And on a personal note, from the men I've seen and friends I have, I'd say the numbers are pretty accurate. There aren't as many 7" cocks as people would like to believe there is.
