How important is this to women? Can a guy who would generally be considered cute/handsome look ugly if he just frowns?

Smiling is very attractive. It definitely calls attention to a guy when I see him smiling and it reaches his eye's. I tend to be more in tune with people that smile and laugh a lot. Though a serious guy would get my attention as well, because I would wonder what make's him so serious? What's so important? What's going on in his mind? Then my goal would be to make him smile.

    You are so full-of-it. :p
I think women are turned off by guys that don't smile.

I've never thought of this specific question before. I can't speak for other women, but I think the guys who have attracted me have smiled a lot.

I have dated a few serious and broody types, but they smiled a lot too.

Yeah, frowning is a turn off... But you can turn it upside-down by 69ing...

I find that when I deliberately smile more, I get a lot more attention from women. It's like throwing a switch, almost - and if I don't want attention or to talk to anyone, I refrain from smiling and put on a focused/intense/impatient look, and people leave me alone.

i find that girls like it when you walk through a crowd frowning and then look them in the eye and put on a shit eating grin. the frown says "oh this guy is mysterious, dark, and troubled" and the shit eating grin says "he is perfectly comfortable farting in my presence. it's like we've been dating for six months already"

Nope I never said a guy frowning I said one that looked serious...if I were exposed to him enough I would want to make him smile. The first thing I said is I'm attracted to people who SMILE. There is something mysterious about a brooding individual to me. I have this horrible need to make others around me happy. Eventually I would aggraviate him until he smiled...promise.

Ahhh there's our difference  Once again I have the need to make everything better. It's actually a horrible personality trait I've been told. If people do not want my help I back off. But sometimes I focus to much on helping others. (you would kick me too eventually:wink:)

Interesting, I tend to smile when around people I know. I tend to stay serious when on my own (a form of protection almost, don't want to look weak? Or something), I get things done and leave playtime for when I'm at parties/social events and meeting new people.

So basically, to strangers I guess I look mysterious, but when getting to know people, not so much. WOuld that kill the mystery though? Or give off a pleasant surprise?

Why ask a question if you only want answers which agree with you?

There was a time when my husband didn't smile much. So, when he did, it was like the clouds parting, and angels singing, and rainbows, and happy little gnomes frolicking.

When I was courting him, he smiled occasionally, but never wanted to let me see it. As time went on, he got used to being happy, and to smiling, and now he smiles all the time, at least when he's with me.

I just asked him: He smiles at work now too, but gives me most of the credit.
