Some of the purposes of an elected executive government:
A) To move to respond to a crisis quickly and to be held accountable when they don't.
B) To oversee the agencies in the government, make sure they're properly funded and equipped and make them accountable to the people.
The chain of accountability.
C) To be aware of current events so they can have responses and opinions ready.

Did Reagan do these things in the case of AIDS? Did Bush do them during hurricane Katrina?

In fairness to Bush, he at least has good initiatives to stop the spread of diseases, especially in Africa. One of the better choices of his stay in office.

And in fairness to Reagan, Aids was unprecedented...how do you have responses and opinions ready for that?

Reagan was a scab who was used by the right wing to sell a phony feel good public relations scam to cover the real agenda which was to transfer more and more wealth from the working class to the greed head con artists. The present "leader of the free world" is pushing fear to accomplish the same goal for his cronies. Wake up America. How much more of this shit can you take before you wise up? God you're gullible.

Reagan was a shitty president and greedy as hell, as are ALL Republicans!
BUSH SUCKS!
Please learn not to put all people in the same category. I am Republican and I am far from greedy. Please. Don't you get sick of name-calling and prejudice?

I thought this was about Reagan. My, my. Oh, I forgot to mention one small thing. Dear Ronnie suffered from Alzheimer's disease his whole presidency. Yes, his brain looked like the inside of a box of Cracker Jacks; completely carmelized. Poor Nancy had to remind him where he was all the time. But he could still read a script. I'll give him that. And you fell for his schtick just as you fell for the "threat" to your security posed by the weak country of Iraq and you will swallow whole the lie that Iran is out to get you too.

It was supposed to be about Reagan...you called people gullible! You have every right to have your opinions but that doesn't make me or anyone else gullible for not believing the same as you.

36DD: I called America gullible. It is a fact. They ate up his shit like it was manna from heaven (or at least the ones who voted for him). See, the way it is, if you believe a lie, you are by definition, gullible. The corporate media sold you a bill of goods then and now. Be a little more critical. Still believe in Santa Claus?

Well, for a start it isn't unprecedented. Societies have been dealing with new diseases since the dawn of time from plague, to syphilis and through to new flu strains.

For a second point, so what if it is? Part of the reason we choose these people to lead us is because they're not flakes, so they can deal with unexpected situations. It's simply incompetent to sit on your hands through a crisis, even if it's a completely new kind of crisis.

So, being "fair" and holding him up to compare against presidents who've dealt with things as unprecedented as the great depression, world wars, nuclear weapons and planes crashing into buildings... he comes up pretty short. Bush formed opinions and responses pretty quickly to his unprecedented event (like them or not).

First, I can't take you seriously as someone who considers himself mature and well-educated when the your first words to me are "oh, just stick it!"
Second, I don't have to go back and read the newspapers because I was there.Third, you are not as well-educated as you claim, or you would be knowledgeable enough to know not to tell someone who has a different view point than you that they have fallen victim to some "Republican noise machine". I have my own brain and I think for myself, thank you.

I think I can say whatever I want in response to someone who, without any basis whatsoever, accuses me of lying about my age and whatever else you think I was lying about. In hundreds of postings on LPSG, I have NEVER lied about anything.

But you absolutely could not have been an adult during his entire presidency, which is what you said. It is not possible if you are 45 now. I didn't accuse you of lying about anything else... just don't agree with your opinion. BTW, I'm much easier to talk with when you are polite to me.

Actually by definition gullible means you are easy to be deceived, which I am not, and I don't put much stock in anything the media has to report.
BTW, you were doing so well at explaining your position until you had to insult me with that comment on being critical. If thinking critically is supposed to mean that I should come to the same conclusions as you, then I'd have to say I still believe in Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and yes, even the Easter Bunny. C'mon, try not to be so insulting...

So do ALL politicians. If it was only the republicans we would be in much better shape today.

Yeah, Clinton was the best Republican president since Dwight Eisenhower. He paid down the enormous debt run up by that spendthrift Reagan. Do you know what a liberal is? It is someone who favors free trade with no government interference. Ronnie was a liberal. Have all you Reagan worshippers heard about the thievery going on at the Reagan Library? The Republicans who work there are lifting every trinket they take a fancy to because no one has yet made an inventory. They are understaffed, or so they say. Ronnie's collection of custom western style belt buckles has been particularly looted. Times must be really tough. The Republicans are eating their own. So much for the Reagan Legacy. The question that remains to be answered: Which administration was more corrupt: Reagan's or the current Bush's?

Lets do the math, shall we? 2007-1981=26 and 45-26=19. Legal age of adulthood 18. So if 45 year old man in 2007 says he was an adult in 1981, I reckon he ain't a liar. Ronnie Raygun, Prez of the USA 1981-1989 RIP. Can you agree 36DD? Or is arithmetic another example of liberal bias? How about some pics of the Double Dee Ranch, by the way?

Did I say that Republicans were the only lying politicians? No I did not. Please don't go down the false attribution path that Mush Limbergh made popular.

This is an example of the craziness that everyone's opinion carries the same weight. If your opinion is not supported by the historical record and is based upon a pleasant fantasy, your opinion is bullshit, my dear. Notice I am insulting your opinion, not your person. Capiche?
