He's not now that everyone knows what's in his porn history as well as his criminal record.

Prior to that, he had a lot of attention and fans because he's kind of dorky.

He did represent some sort of political idea for respectable newspapers to call him a hero, a symbol of all that's right and good in America, a symbol of hope in democracy, the true winner of the debate, the only honest man in this debate, etc.
