Watched Kinsey yesterday. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Was actually surprised that Peter Sarsgaard consented so openly to full-frontal nudity. You get it in a scene with his character, Kinsey's assistant, and Kinsey, camped out in a hotel room in Chicago in which they discuss the Kinsey Scale of sexuality. The assistant asks if his sexual history makes him a 3 -- no joke, script made it explicit that he's bisexual -- and Kinsey mentions that he, himself, is a 1 or 2. They make out.

That's beside the point. Sarsgaard's average. Could be a grower.

    And the funny bits:

    (1) After Kinsey and his wife Clara have uncomfortable sex for the first time, they consult a "sex therapist" and reveal that Kinsey's hung bigger than average. Couldn't read the ruler that the therapist uses. I would say it stopped around 7 and Clara gestured about an 8 or so.

    (2) The kinky forester guy who has claimed over 9.000 in his sexual history offers an exact measurement of 8.24 inches length and 2.8 inches diameter (~6.2 inches circumference).

It was cool to see the film be faithful to the openness (if not a little wackiness) of the Kinseys in their work and lives.

I hope it signals a new trend in full-frontal trend in films. I don't go to movies to look at dick (there's porn for that), but the fact that actors and filmmakers are not ashamed of nudity might actually rub off on society. Or maybe it's the other way around -- is society more accepting of our bodies and traditionally mysognistic Hollywood realizing it's ok to show naked men?

It never made sense to me that R ratings were distributed for a naked penis as quickly as it was for films of people getting slaughtered, decapitated and blown to pieces in the most graphic, violent ways.

In Europe, full frontals have never been a problem (esp movies like BETTY BLUE), so it's just the repressed folk in the US and UK and Australia that have had to deal with the phallus in a negative way!

    That's putting it mildly.

I just got done watching Kinsey tonite. Great movie....good information in there. I had no idea that in Kinsey's first sample study that 1/3 of the married guys had a homosexual experience. Very good, drama...very thought provoking.
