a lot of marketing is based upon pointing out your missing tile.

just the whole notion of the Smith's keeping up with the Jones's.

There's a fundamental difference in what one doesn't "have" as opposed to releasing one's full potential. There's also the knowledge (not to mention self-confidence) to be gained on voyages of self-discovery and improvement
