We all have opinions on various things. I thought this would be a good way of people telling us about current movies that they saw and if they would recommend it or not.

So to start out with, I'd say a definite YES to Casino Royale. Just saw it this past weekend. Very fast paced movie and the new Bond rocks. Some good humor too.

I'd also have to give a pass on Die, Mommy Die. We ordered it from Net Flicks. It really wasn't all that impressive, to me. I know some people on here liked it (that's why I ordered it) but it wasn't my cup of tea.

So anyone else have any movies that they saw that they would recommend or not recommend?

Thanks,

Sklar

I thought Flags Of Our Fathers was a good movie, I'd ecourage people to go see it. I think people should read the book as well.

Stranger Than Fiction was okay. It's not normal Will Ferrel crazy like I was expecting but it was pretty cool. I'd say see it, but don't make a mad dash for the theatre.

Running With Scissors was overrated.

Borat was funny, but defiantely not for everyone.

I may be the only person on the planet who actually liked the old one. You know, Woody Allen, Daliah Lavi, Kurt Kasznar, John Houston, David Niven, Joanna Pettit, Ursula Andress, William Holden, Deborah Kerr, George Raft, Orson Welles, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jacky Bisset, Anna Quayle, Bernard Cribbins, Duncan Macrae, Ronnie Corbett, Vladek Sheybal (his second Bond movie), uncredited Caroline Munroe, Stirling Moss, and Peter O'Toole, and an uncredited dwarf (in a non-speaking role). Great movie. I haven't seen the new one - I'm running a few Bonds behind.

The Queen.

Helen Mirren is spot on in her portrayal of the Elizabeth II and her reactions to the untimely death of Diana. Funny at some spots (ie. British protocall, dry and sarcastic wit, Queen Mum) and poignant at others.

I wonder if The (real) Queen has seen it and what her reaction was.

I agree that Casino Royale was pretty good, the blond Bond has definitely proven himself. The dialogue was fantastically (and intentionally) cheesy, but that added some humor to the action. I also recently saw Borat, but while the premise is funny and individual scenes are sometimes hilarious, I don't see how this is a critically acclaimed movie...

ERAGON

First off, let me say that I have not read the book. So all I knew about the movie was the previews that I had seen. They looked good, so we went.

The cinematogrpahy was outstanding. The Special effects were top notch. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous.

The movie, over all, was not that great, though.

I won't go into details on why I didn't like the movie out of respect for the people who haven't seen it yet but still want too. All I will say is that it is certainly a DVD rental or at the very least a matinee and not worth seeing twice.

EPIC MOVIE

Ever see previews for a movie that you know is going to be bad but it still looks good?

Well, that ain't Epic Movie

This movie was bad.

And I mean bad as in Waterworld bad.

There were some humerous parts to it but not enough to save the movie.

Now don't get me wrong. If you like potty humor (pee and puke) there will be some scenes that make you laugh.

Movies that it spoofs are:

Narnia, X-Men, Superman (very briefly), Pirates of the Carribbean, Nacho Libre, The Davinci Code, Snakes on a Plane (again very briefly), Harry Potter, Click and IWillie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Oh Yeah, Borat makes an appearance, too. (shudder)

You would think that with all that to spoof there would be some good solid humor. You would be wrong.

This movie isn't even worth a Matinee price (which was 7.50!!!!).

Net Flix it.

Next century.

OK, so we are signed up for Netflix. Great company there! I highly recommend it for people who like movies.

Tonights presentation is:

The Island with Ewan McGregor!

He spends most of the movie running around in a skin tight white suit! YUM!

OK, back to the thread. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone who likes action/adventure.

The premise is believable and the acting is good.

The real treat in this movie is the car chase scene with the train wheels crashing into everything. Great special effects all around in this movie but especially in that scene!

The basic plot is a cross between the Stepford Wives and that movie with the robot with Alley Sheedy. #5 is alive was the catch phrase for that movie.

In this movie it seems that the really rich and spoiled spend 5 million dollars to have parts cloned from them and kept alive by the company. What the people do not know is that whole people are cloned and grown and living lives. Ewan McGregors character finds out he is a clone and with his friend, whom I don't remember, totally hot woman whose name eludes me at the moment, escapes from their artifical world and makes their way out into the real world.

Star Trek Voyager fans, the guy who played Neelix on Voyager has a bit part in this movie, too.

As I said, watch this movie!!!

i agree, 'the island' is worth it. not academy award, but worth it and an interesting enough premise with some good performances.

just saw 'apocalypto' and would love to hear anyone else's reactions to it as well. i'm a freak for the maya, so that made it worth it at face value for me. after that, story is pretty basic, writing, scenes all pretty much easy to guess everything that will happen so mel falls short. he also is up to his old tricks again with the over the top gore and violence, though the first half i actually found myself saying "huh, mel is holding back some, bravo for him", but then he makes up for that. sets, visuals, costuming, makeup all fairly good, though they smack a lil of exaggeration for effect compared to the histories i've read. most interesting was the language. also wondered if anyone else has comments regarding these movies where they use the 'old' languages and subtitle in english, how does that affect your perception of the acting performances? thought a couple actors did good to great jobs.

Subtitled movies don't bother me at all. In fact I tend to pay better attention because you can't look away from the screen for more than a few moments. Anyway, most of the world watches Hollywood movies subtitled and there are a lot of good films that are not in the English language.

Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ both have their merits. I found the The Passion to be a lot more over the top with unrelenting violence than Apocalypto. In both the cultures are so steeped in violence that many of the characters seem to barely notice the brutality.

Has anyone seen Pan's Labyrinth? It's been out for weeks, but hasn't arrived at a theater near me yet.

GUESS WHO

This remake of the classic film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" is not that bad.

It's a reverse take on the original. Meaning that this time it's a white man that's brought home to a black family. Ashton Kutcher plays the token white man here with Bernie Mac playing the father.

When this movie first was released I wanted to see it and didn't have a chance to. So when we got it on Netflix I was looking forward to it. As I said eralier, it's not that bad. Well above average but nothing spectacular.

There are some good funny scenes (the go cart racing and drunken living room football), there are some painful scenes (the white boy telling black jokes at the dinning room table in front of all that family).

Overall the movie is about tolerance and how, no matter what we say, that even the most open minded person (Bernie Mac) can have hidden predjudices that aren't buried all that far under the surface.

It's a good movie. B+.

Rent it.

Last one I saw in the theaters was Rocky VI

It was very inspirational and an awesome movie. It followed closely to the first one. Finally we can forget about that horrid Rocky V and have a worthy ending to the series.

NORBIT

Whatever you do, do NOT listen to the critics!

This movie is funny! Not pee my pants funny but funny as in a good movie to go and see.

Eddie Murphy rocks in all three rolls that he plays.

You want a good movie to just have a good time at, it's NORBIT!
