Standing yesterday on the corner at the local federal building with 5 other sign waving peaceniks, my totally unscientific take on public opinion is that a considerable shift in favor of peace is the present mood.
This is a town with 2 military bases, the states income is 87% oil. The protesters have been there every week since before the war was started (even at -10f). Usually there is little response from drivers, probably about equally 'digitus impudicus' to thumbs up.
Yesterday, a much higher level of honking, waving, thumbs up, smiling, eye contact. So many people took both hands off the wheel to look at the signs and wave, I was worried they were going to have accidents.
Now, if it actually accomplished something...
