I don't follow sports at all. It's my great failing as an American male. That, and I don't drink enough. A sad tale, but true.

Same here. I don't care much for agent-lawyer-owner-athlete-advertiser-fan money squabbles, uh....I mean, traditional American pro sports.

In any case, why not have the Super Bowl on Saturday and Sunday could serve as the bonus day off?

Personally, if I am going to watch someone play sports, I'd rather watch a game of kids who just got together to have some fun. That is the purest form of the game, anyway.

And, no, I am NOT perving on little kids. I heard your replies in my head three nanoseconds after I posted.

Just a quick thought - Do any other countries have their own professional football (not soccer) league? Sort of like Baseball in Japan?

Canada has a well established league that plays under slightly different (and for the most part, superior) rules than the US NFL/NCAA leagues use.

There's an international league in Europe that's affiliated with the NFL, but it's small time compared with soccer. And there are other, regional leagues that are more rec league than professional. Nothing on the scale of baseball in Japan (or Venezuela or the Dominican Republic, for that matter).

In Missouri, most bars are not allowed to be open on Sundays. (I think you can now get a special Sunday license, but it is very rare). However, the only sunday that bars can be opened is Super Bowl Sunday, so in Missouri, the Super Bowl is more important than God.

For most people, the quarterfinals of a seniors bowling tournament would be more important than (G)od.

I don't know. It seems to me that naming a national holiday after a sport would all relative and perspective since there isn't a World Series Day yet, or for that matter, a Stanly Cup Day.

And that brings up a good point. Why is it called the "World Series" when its only two nations involved, Canada and the U.S.? I mean, it'll really be more of a world series when Latin American league champs and Asian league champs compete with the North American league champs for the title.
