Well it finally moving forward. GZ has been charged and taken into custody. Time to let the courts get to work.

What cynicism? I'm quite sincere.
George Zimmerman *admits* to shooting Trayvon Martin, and claims it was done in self defense. At the moment, the most important word in that sentence is *claims.* Many people in the media, and even in the general public, are calling for a reaction approximating a witch hunt. There has even been a threat of race riots.
A court decision would be appropriate, and will hopefully end this debacle...
The only way it will end is a guilty verdict, anything less and I fear Florida will be in flames.

All we should hope for is a *just* verdict, whatever that may mean in this particular case.
Beyond that, Florida will just have to take care of itself.

Hopefully when all is said and done we don't have what we did in the Rodney King aftermath.

Well, even if you take away any factor of race or profiling from this case, you still are left with what the evidence itself supports: a guy with a vigilante complex, having made numerous past calls on suspected activity in the neighborhood, reported Martin as someone suspicious (for no apparent reason), followed him, and made further comments that included profanities, slurs (even if not racially motivated), and a statement to the effect that "they (whoever "they" are) always get away".
He then proceeded to IGNORE police directives not to pursue Martin and confronted Martin. Whether Martin fought back is moot because in effect, it was Martin who was compelled to stand his ground. Zimmerman was the aggressor, he was the one who acted recklessly, he was the one armed, he killed Martin, and struggle or not, accident or not, Zimmerman is guilty.
He then proceeded to IGNORE police directives not to pursue Martin and confronted Martin. Whether Martin fought back is moot because in effect, it was Martin who was compelled to stand his ground. Zimmerman was the aggressor, he was the one who acted recklessly, he was the one armed, he killed Martin, and struggle or not, accident or not, Zimmerman is guilty.

So what we have is a dead black teenager shot by a middle aged mixed race man.
Zimmerman claims that the victim "smashed" his head against the pavement. But apparently there is a 911 recording of an officer saying "cancel the second ambulance, the other party [Zimmerman] is not injured."
And there is a photo of Zimmerman at the police station where he appears to have no visible injuries after having his head slammed against the pavement.
The other thing is the weight, strength and ability of the victim to 'smash' Zimmerman's head against the pavement. To me it seems impossible for a 17 year old to smash someone of Zimmerman's size/weight against the pavement multiple times as he claims.
Also you would think for that to even be possible, Travyon would have to have the element of surprise/be behind Zimmerman when in fact it was the other way around.
Zimmerman is guilty and Florida should look at changing this stand your ground law that they have. I understand that originally it was intended to apply to an individual's own property but here it has been applied to an entire neighbourhood and you see the outcome.

You'll also recall the bounty put on Zimmerman's head by the New Black Panthers for which Attorney General Holder has done NOTHING. I'd like to be wrong but if a jury exonerates Zimmerman there will be black on white violence as there was in the Rodney King case.
