Large Penis Getabout?

You never know.

Could either of you gents enlighten the rest of us as to what a congestion charge is?

It's the brainchild of our Erstwile Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone. Basically London traffic was, well bonkers with average speeds much the same as 100 years ago when just about every vehicle was 1 horsepower.

The idea was to charge to enter the central London zone between 07:00-18:00 Mon-Fri, this would deter casual car use etc. The charge was initially £5. The zone was extended in February out to the West of London and the charge raised to £8. There was talk of a £25 charge for 4x4's and vehicles emitting over about 226g/km of CO2. I don't think they're enacted though.

It has been successful in that traffic is reduced, though not as much as predicted and there have been many screwups, incorrect charging and quite a bit of fraud (mostly by drivers using fake plates). It's also unpopular with small businesses who claim it has hurt them. Zone residents get a 90% discount. Bikes, eletcric vehicles and (I think) very low emission vehicles are exempt as are Taxis.

So it's an excruciatingly localized environmentally friendly gouge.

How insidiously clever.

Insidious, certainly.

I rarely drive into Central London; it's stupidly expensive to park, perhaps £4-5 per hour on a meter, or as it seems, the meter. £80 fine or more for overstaying 1 nanosecond and a fair chance of being clamped or towed in which case it can end up well over £200. Makes for a very expensive inpromptu Big Mac!

Plus, most drivers seem to have been taught by the Stevie Wonder school of motoring.

The tube is faster and costs £2.60

*sigh* Don't say tube, I'm single. The mind wanders.

I guess Absolutely Fabulous didn't teach me everything I needed to know about London after all. Bugger!

The prices near my house are as follows :

Regular - Arm
Medium - Leg
Super - First Born Child
:biggrin1: I guess that means that only you breeder-types can afford super, right? We queer-types don't usually have First Born Children.

"Honey, I need to knock you up... the tank's almost empty."

Taking this one as a high to compare against - others are posting cheaper

I'm sure this has been said but:

3.785 litres = 1 US gallon
3.65 per gallon = 0.964 US$ per litre (rounding down)
1.00 USD = 0.743161 EUR (XE.com)
0.964 USD = 0.716409 EUR
You pay .72c (EURO a litre) ????

I pay EURO 1.30+ - heading for 1.35
1.30 EUR = 1.74916 USD
So I pay $6.62 a gallon

Stop MOANING - YOUR Govt subsidises the FUCK out of your oil prices!!

HAHA. Yeah, but part of that subsidy is so that car companies can continue to sell big ass expensive cars to Americans. The average American car probably gets 30% worse gas mileage than the Euro car. I just parked my Cadillac...10 mpg. In Europe that would have cost $25 to drive to school each day, apparently.

If they were giving green stamps still for all the gas I've been purchasing, I'd be able to buy a house. (I love OVER-dating myself...)

Whose?

The various US governments make a good deal of revenue from every gallon sold. Some of the taxes are even posted on the pumps.

Keep in mind... we VOTE a lot of those in... thinking $.005 for clean hatcheries or $.01 extra per gallon for whatever... it adds up. Too lazy too google it myself... but a large chunk is taxes voted in, and/or legislated in.
