- b.c.,
In tactics reminiscent of despicably race baited politics one would've though long past, the Romney campaign has now made "welfare" an issue in their campaign with false charges that conjures (in the minds of his supporters no doubt) the same type of imagery used by Reagan and others of that ilk to appeal to the misinformed and the bigot, which, all too often make up large ranks of their constituency.
This is evidenced, for instance, by the fact that the majority of Republicans have no problem with Romney's Mormon faith while at the same time still believe Obama to be a Muslim. Ignorance by choice.
However, ignorance by choice or via overexposure to disinformation is still equally dangerous, and knowing this full well, the Romney forces have once again appealed to the basest level of their rank via use of thinly veiled racism.
Not that any particular minority makes up the majority of those on some form of government assistance, or on "welfare" in particular. Most know that whites make up the majority. But it's the image that plays out in the minds of their constituency and the sentiments they invoke that the Romney people are counting on. And make no mistake about it, the "card" as it were, has been played. For them, not a surprise mind you, though one would have hoped for better.
