To my knowledge, the "race card" was an invention by racist whites who wanted to stifle legitimate concerns from aggrieved African Americans.

I don't think "playing the race card" even exists. Do black folk get a little bit paranoid from constantly living in a society predicated on white supremacy? Statistically, it is bound to happen from time to time just from the circumstances and set of variables in question... but does it happen outside of that statistical range?

No, the instances of black folk jumping the gun and assuming someone is racist when they are not, occurs less often than it is statistically supposed to.

So, playing the race card doesn't exist... it never has.

All because you said so. Thank you for enlightening us all.

What you've said is (more or less) in keeping with what I've said on the subject, specifically, when people express concerns over racism they are not playing some "card" if (for whatever reason) they believe it to be true.

Now for sake of cold and calculated statistics and laws of probability, used by some to further their position (a tactic that just might come back to bite one or two in the bum, and maybe sooner than later) we would have to ALLOW that in the annals of ALL history, including that of the black experience in America, laws of probably would suggest that at least ONCE, somebody employed a false accusation of racism when they knew in their heart of hearts, that it wasn't the case.

That MUST be accepted, just as we accept the realities of mutations within a species, and asteroids colliding with the earth.

Is that to say that the so-called "race card" is employed 50%, 25%, or even 10% of the time?

OR that it is employed OFTEN ENOUGH so that the introduction of alleged instances of "the race card" is sufficient enough to DEBUNK and DISCREDIT genuine concerns, and real issues regarding race?

I don't THINK so.

Why? Because people who truly believe themselves racially marginalized and/or victims of racism, aren't playing some f******g "game", that's why.

The race card, in my mind, is ANY (in other words, every single one in the world) mention of racism lacking irrefutable proof.

Not smart at all... Shows a lack of understanding on the subject. Which shows a lack of actual attachment to the issue. Someone walks by me on the street and utters a racial slur... short of having some sort of video recorder on hand and running at THAT very moment....what "irrefutable proof" is there to display to someone? Some one murders a black guy because he's black, but later claims the guy attacked him.... again, short of having a video camera on hand....how do you "irrefutably" prove racism to be the culprit? These are legitimate questions.... not just looking for an answer, but hoping to show you the intangible nature of racism...

Agreed. The same irrefutable proof when accusations of racism are hurled around here so irresponsibility at other posters for daring to raise the tough issues and questions. Is THAT playing the race card? Does it make those who use it feel better? Yep, these are legitimate questions.

As I see it, the more an accusation is made, the less it means.

Meaning, if we clam up and don't say much about a racial incident or concern, it becomes MORE valid????

Riiiiiiiiight. Makes about as much sense as suggesting that 97% of blacks voted for Obama solely because he's black.

What exactly does that have to do with the legitimacy of "the race card"? Again...use your words to make your points man... That's all I'm asking...

It's what they do. "Look at this video and see how violent black people are."

They're too cowardly to admit the reason for these but the pattern is clear.

On a lighter note, there hasn't been a "Why can't black people be more like Asians?" thread today.

Certainly Fuzzy can't MEAN to suggest that it is THEY who are, perhaps, playing "the race card".

I know, right... As if we haven't seen videos depicting people of other races committing acts of violence. That's why I asked him to clarify his points...but he's failed to do so...so I'm starting to come to the obvious conclusion...

It's this propaganda that has created the myth that white people are more likely to be assaulted by blacks than by fellow whites.

As for honey clarifying his points, don't hold your breath.

They don't even know they're doing it. White elitism.

Nor is that we're condoning such acts as this Kroger incident, either. Such behavior is and should be repugnant to us all, and should result in arrests and prosecution, especially if found to be some kind of hate crime, or part of this recent trend among certain young people who think such acts as "the knockout game" some form of high entertainment (not to mention the danger inherent in such "games" escalating into the "shoot u in the a*** game")....

anyway..............

If the purpose of presenting these isolated incidents is to decry legitimate concern and discourse about race and racism in America, then surely they're missing the mark.
