I mentioned somewhere here before about Republican efforts to disenfranchise thousands of voters come this election via various "voter ID legislation" being promoted across the nation; promoted "almost exclusively" by Republican lawmakers, according to the article below:

NBC Politics - In legislatures and courtrooms, busy weeks ahead for voter ID

Personally, I have no beef with laws requiring the showing of a driver's license or similar id for the purposes of voting. I have done so for a number of recent elections.

The devil, apparently, is in the details, because, according to opponents of the legislation, obtaining the required id would be a difficulty, inconvenience, and/or expense primarily to voters likely to vote Democrat, and therefore would result in significant numbers of such voters being unable to vote.

My take? Don't get caught up in the "trick bag" and allow someone, for whatever reason, to deny you your right to vote. Go out and get those ID's. Bring the WHOLE frekin' family, and a neighbor or two.

And while you're at it, get 'em registered to vote, if they aren't.

It's quite contrary to the whole "get gov't out of my life" thing the R's love to sing about. You're forcing people to spend money (Strike One!), it's gov't intrusion into private life (Strike Two!), and it's a hurdle to the exercise of Constitutional Rights (Strike Three!).

Ulterior motive laid bare, then.

I am sympathetic to those that will be affected by this but if you're looking for someone to blame , LOOK IN YOUR MIRROR... B/c so many idiot Dem's sat out the 2010 Midterms, the right wing loons of the country were able to claim the flat Earth of the USA. Now the GOP is showing their true colors, the racist hues that are doing every damn thing to prevent Blk and Latino people, who predominantly vote DEMOCRATIC from performing their CONSTITUTIONALLY GIVEN RIGHT!

The GOP is a dying party and they are doing everything they can as immoral as it may be to hold onto their brass ring as long as they can.

If you are Black .... the GOP doesn't want you!

If you are Latino..... The GOP doesn't want you!

If you are GLBT, they would rather you not exist at all, as you are a social inconvenience they don't think their lord and savior would allow on Earth.

I know it's shocking but I speak the truth, being the only Democrat in a family of Conservatives, i know them all too well. I know this does NOT apply to the GOP in total but you bet your damn life it applies to MANY of them.

As the saying goes, NOT ALL REPUBLICANS ARE RACISTS BUT ALL RACISTS ARE REPUBLICANS. (Again not entirely true but truer than not)

Their cries of "VOTER FRAUD" like the 2000 Election is nothing but a fukin scam. The ONLY voter fraud I have seen has been FROM the GOP! lololol Amusingly Ironic as it may be!

HH

P.S. I felt I REALLY had to add this b/c it proves my point explicitly about the GOP feelings towards the GLBT communities.

GO-PROUD , the Gay Republican group was NOT allowed to speak at the CPAC convention yet they did allow a WHITE SUPREMACIST TO SPEAK ................... CASE CLOSED !!!!

The GOP will do anything to make sure only those that vote
their way will be able to vote.

In the old days there was a US POLE TAX which kept "certain people" from being able to vote unless they could prove they
had paid the specified Pole Tax.
This Tax also worked in conjuntion with "Literacy" tests to
disenfranchise certain groups of people, ie. the poor, the non-
whites, etc.

At the time that this Descriminating Tax was replealed by the 24th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1962, 5 States still held out and retained the Pole Tax.
They were Virginia, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
The ratification of this ammendment clearly declared Pole taxes unconstitutional.

After that, all American Citizans, of legal votiing age, could not be denied the right to vote due to the lack of payment of any
taxes levid by the US or any State.

It looks like THOSE "discouraging barriers" are on the way back in.....in the form of Official Identification (IDs) in some form or another....:frown1:

There are still 20 States (including DC) and 4 territories that DO NOT REQUIRE IDs to vote.
They are: ME, VT, NH, MA, NY, PA, NJ, MD, DC, WV, NC, IL, IA, MN, NE, WY, NV, OR, CA, and VI, PR, MP, GU, AS.

The 30 that have instituted Photo IDs or IDs over the years are:
GA, IN, KS, MS, SC, TN, TX, WI, AL, FL, HI, ID, MI, SD, LA, AK, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, KY, MT, MN, ND, OH, RI, UT, VA, WA,

The information required to obtain Identification Cards (IDs)...in some cases non-drivers licenses IDs...vary from states to state, as well as the fees for obtaining them. Normally a birth certificate or a proof of receiving Social Security is required...and in some cases a number of other documents.
(Note: my mother did not have a birth certificate since she was born in a rural area, at home and was delivered by her mother. At the age of 65, it took her 5 years to obtain sufficient proof
that she was born in the US and was who she said she, was to obtain her US Passport)

Fees for these IDs in order to be able to vote range from $3 to more than $30. In most cases, the higher fees are in the States that have the highest minorities and where obtaining documentation might be difficult and expensive, if not impossible.
..and the fees a burden for those with little money.

It is quite evident that to run for office today you have to be of great wealth or have exceptionally wealthy backers. It is the right to VOTE in the future going to depend on a new type of Pole Tax (IDs) which just might mean many might be left out of voting if they are unable to obtain them? God help us, I hope not.

Yes, guys, all valid points, and mad as hell is what we all should be.

But discriminatory laws and legislation designed to deny citizens their rights to vote are nothing new. These recent events just verify the fact that the struggle against such discrimination continues. This should be a wake up call as to what's at stake, and how far certain people are willing to go to deny others the right to vote; to make others out to be second class citizens whose opinion are not worth considering.

USE THIS as a catalyst for action: on one front, to be vocal in opposition to the legislation, to fight it in court, to make such actions on the part of the Republican party a liability for them by how we vote; and on the other end, by mass voter registration drives and community based action groups and programs that provide legal counsel and financial assistance to those in need of such, so that they can obtain the necessary documentation. Get mad as hell, use it, and make 'em wish they hadn't tried it.

"You say I need one form of identification? Here, fuckers, I have two."

And where is this massive vote fraud that is supposedly supposedly carried out by poor and brown people going on? The republicans have yet to demonstrate that it actually occurs. On the other hand, republican frauds such as calling democrates to tell them election day has been delayed are well documented.

In the old days there was a US POLE TAX which kept "certain people" from being able to vote unless they could prove they
had paid the specified Pole Tax.

The poll tax (from Middle English polle, meaning "head") means taxing by headcount. I imagine a pole tax would be on males only, though sometimes it's been used to refer to this.

I think people should have to show ID, but that there should be no cost if you do not drive

Maybe the US should experiment with compulsory voting and see if it changes anything. There's an expectation in several countries, like Australia and Argentina, that every adult of voting age participate in national elections.

I would actually love that, but with the current crop of Retards controlling the House, this would never happen.

If we required everyone of voting age to vote it would wipe out the Republican party, in just about every state. Then we could actually see real change and growth in the country wo the current obstacles that intentionally shackle the US!

Our country is a very liberal country, hell even *gasp* SOCIALIST!!!! but the VOTING ELECTORATE is 40% Dem, 30% Republican and 30% Independent.
It makes me crazy when I hear morons like those teabaggers cry KEEP GOVERNMENT OUT OF MY LIFE............ Yet many are on Social Security, many get food stamps and many get Medicare and Medicaid.
It shows how their racism blinds them to how obtuse they are, ALL OF THAT IS FROM THE GOVERNMENT and therefore..... say it with me boys and girls; SOCIALIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the republicans don't really want government out of our lives. They only want it out of some areas while pushing ceaselessly for its intrusion in others. They preach freedom of speech but then want to ban flag burning; they don't want the government telling us what lightbulbs to buy but want it to tell us who we can and can't sleep with, what we can wear on our cocks when we do and what decisions we are allowed to make should a prgnancy occur; the government shouldn't tell busnesses how to conduct their affairs regardless of what benefits they may receive from the goverment, but should dictate to welfare recipients how they should spend their money.

The funny thing is they don't even try to hide their hypocrisy or inconsistencies.

The last two posts I agree with. They are spot on factually. Anyone who can't read what has already been pointed out must be as thick skinned as the GOP mascot. The facts are all there ... But then again facts are a Left Wing conspiracy.

I love you HH11X7.... YOU Are my Progressive Ideal. Sigh.:biggrin1:

Awwww ty, so much, that means a great deal to me.

I aspire to be MY ideal, Senator Bernie Sanders.

It just infuriates me to think that ANY Party could be so fukin power hungry to go to such immoral lengths to hold on to their dying empire. YES, I would be saying the same thing if the Democratic party had an evil agenda to stop people from voting who would vote Repugnican.

The last two posts I agree with. They are spot on factually. Anyone who can't read what has already been pointed out must be as thick skinned as the GOP mascot. The facts are all there ... But then again facts are a Left Wing conspiracy.

HAHAHAHHAAHA INDEED they are. Apparently they are since that is the only place you can find REAL FACTS, in liberal arenas of journalism.

I LOVE YOU!!!!

*blush* Most kind and I thank you.
