Most idiotic punditry:
According to Obama, Jones’s “stunt” (a fair description) is already “a recruitment bonanza for al-Qaeda.” That’s absurd. No sensible person joins a terrorist organization dedicated to mass murder simply because somebody torches a Koran.
Okay, I'll bite. Just what kind of "sensible person" does Mr. McCarthy believe would join "a terrorist organization dedicated to mass murder"?

You know... All of this hypersensitive crybaby nonsense coming from the Republicans ever since 9/11 boggles the mind.

Then again, we are talking about sissies scared so shitless of their own shadow that even after creating a government issued color coded Terror Alert™ system, building up a military paid for with their children's future income, and waging two wars of aggression any objective person would call 'unfair' fights, these cowards STILL don't get it. What makes America strong is that social outcasts from far away lands who live in caves and build pipe bombs don't intimidate us. We intimidate them. This is why they are the ones resorting to building pipe bombs in caves. We just keep doing what we do, capture their asses and laugh at the futility of their pathetic scheme.

Maybe America can just buy every Republican a woobie, they can curl up into the fetal position, suck a thumb and take a nap until they grow a pair. It would certainly save the world a whole hell of a lot of grief and aggravation.

Jealously amongst the wingnuts:
"One of those angry at a Florida preacher's plans to mark Sept. 11 by setting fire to copies of the Quran is Shirley Phelps-Roper, a leader of the Westboro Baptist Church.

Her irritation Wednesday was not that the Rev. Terry Jones and his Dove World Outreach Center's planned bonfire would offend Muslims worldwide and probably increase the danger to American soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
It's that in 2008 she and her father's Topeka flock set fire to a Quran in plain view on a Washington, D.C., street and nobody seemed to care.
"We did it a long time before this guy," Phelps-Roper said by telephone from a street corner in downtown Chicago, scene of the latest Westboro picket — against Jews this time, not gays.
The difference could be that in 2008 many news media outlets had decided to ignore the group's routine of spewing hatred at funerals of fallen American soldiers.
So when Fred Phelps went online and invited people to attend the burning, most stayed away."

Meanwhile, completely unnoticed in someone's backyard:
"Despite multiple pleas to reconsider, two local religious leaders held a private Quran burning in a Springfield, TN backyard Saturday afternoon.

The Rev. Bob Old and the Rev. Danny Allen both had different reasons for burning the Muslim holy book, but they said it had nothing to do with whether or not a mosque was built near ground zero.
"It's about faith, it's about love, but you have to have the right book behind you. This is a book of hate, not a book of love," said Old while holding up a Quran.
The two men said they burned the books to defend the United States Constitution and the American people. It's a move that has been denounced by Christian groups, politicians and even some of their family members.
Three women who have loved ones fighting abroad stood outside of Old's home holding up signs to protest the burnings."

Sadly we have one group of "nutcake extremists" in defiance of common sense doing everything they can to outrage another group of "nutcake extremists".

I wonder what the "Good Reverend" is going to do or say if American lives are lost because of his act.

Will we have denial? Will we have him praising himself? Or will he blame the deaths on some totally off the wall outrageous unrelated cause.

I support his Constitutional Rights, but, just maybe we could make certain that this poor fellow spends a few restful days at "happy acres" in a wonderful room with free food and padded walls just to make certain that he is comfortable.

Considering all of the uninvited covert, illegal, and unconstitutional activities the USA has involved itself over the last 200+ years, (especially in South East Asia, Mexico, Central and South America) one would think that the invisible guys who work for "The Company" could have easily taken care of these Whackoos that threaten our military. At least Clinton did it out in the open with the Alcohol/Tobacco/and Firearms boyze win Waco, Texas. I dunno. Maybe all the members of the CIA and secret black ops groups are all Baptists and are worried about their "eternal" souls. It never ceases to amuse me that Oliver North is allowed to walk the streets and spout whatever he thinks since the Iran/Contra Affair.

I saw this tonight clicking through some local news links. The police chief of Wilton Manors, FL has been suspended for 30 days after having forwarded on a series of racist e-mails via his official city account:

The South Florida Times obtained copies of the e-mails and reported that one of them read: "A little boy said to his mother, 'Mommy, how come I'm black and you're white.' His mother replied, 'Don't even go there, Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you're lucky you don't bark!' "

I live in Wilton Manors, which is a self-contained little enclave set into the middle of Ft Lauderdale, surrounded by rivers, thus it's called the Island City. According to the Wikipedia page:

Wilton Manors is known as a gay village, although its population is extremely diverse. Wilton Manors ranks 3rd in the U.S. for its percentage of gay residents as a proportion of total population. The Fort Lauderdale area ranks 4th in metro areas (per capita). Neighboring Oakland Park is ranked sixth on the list. Wilton Manors has approximately 1270% more gay men per capita than the national average.[9]
One would figure that the chief of police of such a place would need to possess an extra degree of sympathy for minorities or at least some extra tolerance. Instead, he proves once again that SoFla's "finest" is just a pack of hicks with guns
