This article from msnbc's "The Bottom Line" is an in depth report on the 10 worst states in the nation for mortality due to poor or no health care coverage:

"The lack of medical insurance has had grave consequences for individuals and the nation. In 2010 alone, 26,100 people died because they had no health insurance — that amounts to 502 preventable deaths a week."

The states that are dying for healthcare coverage - Bottom Line

The top ten are:

1. Mississippi
2. Louisiana (btw, the top GOP Vice President contender as Romney's running mate, Bobby Jindal, governor of Louisiana has this to say as the citizens of HIS state die for want of coverage):

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal refuses to implement Obamacare despite Supreme Court ruling | The Ticket - Yahoo! News

3. Arkansas
4. South Carolina
5. New Mexico
6. Florida
7. West Virginia
8. Oklahoma
9. Georgia
10 Nevada

Curiously, except Nevada and Florida, Republicans carried all the rest last election. Go fuckin' figure.

Add Florida's governor, Rick Scott, (Florida no. 6 on the list of states dying for health care) to the buffoon and asshole club:

Rick Scott refuses to accept badly needed health care money

"Scott, a former hospital CEO and health care profiteer, was made famous by his adamant and vocal campaign against the Health Care Reform Bill which he still refers to as Obamacare.

Of all the states, Florida has the fourth-highest unemployment rate, the second-highest rate of people without insurance and a $3.7 billion state budget gap. Given this dire situation, Scott has decided that it is more important to draw a line in the sand than to accept federal funding for a law he opposes.

Rick Scott's rejection of available funds for political purposes means that the costs that would have been otherwise covered will be spread to the citizens of Florida through higher insurance premiums and increased out of pocket expenses."

26 THOUSAND AMERICANS, DEAD in ONE year.... for want of health care coverage.

"Right to life" indeed.

So what Patrick Henry actually said was, "Give them liberty and give them death!"...???

Ha ha I like that. Let's run with that slogan!!!

^ And the state is 'leaning' Romney now. Not sure when the common man will get the picture Republicans care nothing about them unless you are a fetus. Small small government but big big defense. Savings = zero.

How is government involvement supposed to improve quality or access to healthcare? The whole system started going to hell in the early sixties when DC got involved, with Medicare and Medicaid. When I was born in '56, my old man paid $170 for the doctor and hospital, about two weeks of his blue-collar wages. When DC got involved a few years later, no longer did anyone have to charge what the market would bear, and the natural restraints on prices were removed.

Think you like government health care? Been involved with VA health care lately? How about Medicare/caid, when increasing numbers of doctors won't take new patients, and states find themselves unable to afford it?

This from the same government that brings us undeclared wars, a disastrous foreign policy, drones, indefinite military detention of US citizens, COINTELPRO, NDAA, etc, etc, etc. The folks in DC are NOT FOR US. People need to wake up and realize this.

Careful what you wish for...

I've worked for the DC gov't, and federal contractors. The waste, inefficiency corruption and incompetence are mind numbing. I rejoined the private sector and haven't looked back. From what I've seen, I'm damn sure that the less gov't between me and my health care providers, the better.

"This method considers the proportion of people who are insured and uninsured, the mortality risks for the uninsured and the number of expected deaths from a hypothetical fully insured population."

This is the biggest line of BS I have every read. Love the way they " hypothetically" came up with this formula.
Also, one hell of an assumption that all these people died because they didn't have insurance.
Something stated throughout the artical is poor lifestyle choices. Maybe that has more to do with it.
Quit reaching people.

I am surprised my shit hole Arid-fucking-zona isn't on the list. This piss hole leads (or seems to) everything bad about living in a red state. It's amazing we have indoor plumbing or electricity here.

The Heritage Foundation pay you to spew this bullshit? You like the U.S. being among the worst in Healthcare? What's your plan? You don't have one, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!

I am so sick of fucking morons like you trolling the internet with your Karl Rove bullshit. All of which can easily be disproved.. If you think Somalia is paradise, then haul your smelly ass there ASAP. Stop trying to drag everyone down into the toilet with you.

The U.S. leads in three things: the number of adults who believe in angels, the number of people in prison, and the amount spent in the pseudo name of "defense." Does that make you feel proud?

Well, I can't comment on evertying here but "poor lifestyle choices" are much more common in people who don't have regular access to medical professionals (i.e. doctors). People who don't have regular access to doctors pretty closely equals people who don't have medical insurance.

Is there a correlation? Yes. Can a conclusion be drawn from the correlation? Yes.

Reaching? Nope.

If one could wade through the vitriolic of your speech there might be something worth knowing. If YOU like Somalia so much, you go live there, because that country seems to be a common theme in your replies. The person you quoted said nothing about Somalia, so if you hate your state as much as you do up and move yourself to someplace that might make you less of a canker sore....maybe Somalia.

And don't tell someone to "Shut the fuck up" on a political forum...what are you trying to achieve with that? That's a weak counter-argument from a weak mind.
