When going though the politics forum. I always have to keep in mind that I am not here to change anyone's way of thinking.
What I believe to be true in the world, and in the world of politics may not be in line with what you believe to be true. In fact, I assume it to me a polar opposite of what you may passionately believe in your heart.
    And that is fine.
    That doesn't make you right.
    That doesn't make me wrong.
I tend to be extremely liberal when it comes to some things.
Like Gay Marriage, The environment, Civil rights, ect.
And extremely conservative when it comes to other things.
Like Financial reform, The Boarders, The wars, Health care, ect.
I know many of my beliefs don't make me popular. My GF is a superduper bleeding heart liberal. and I see eye to eye with her on many things, but when we start talking about politics, watch out!
    hahah.

I don't think any of us in this forum, and I am not even sure why there is a "politics" forum on this site should ever strain the relationships we have with each other over issues that none of have control over.

Even when people disagree with me, and argue with me on points I see their side of it. I consider what they are saying, but I know I cannot change them to my point of view.
And I am not even sure if I would want to.

We all are here together. And in the long run, all of the bickering and arguing will not make a difference.

Stop believing in Government, and start believing in each other.

With all due love and respect...

Excellent post. I've been formulating something along the same vein in my mind for the last couple of days. Thank you.

There is a politics forum on this site because politics is part of life, and just because people have an interest in cocks for whatever reason does not absolve them from life in general. When politcians encroach on our liberties more and more, it is important we hold them to account.

I have conservative friends who support some pretty horrible stuff, but some who are extremely charitable in deed and thought. I have liberal friends who actually do try to aleviate the suffering and bullying in the world by political action, but who would cross the road if they saw a poor person in distress. I think in truth though we all have liberal and conservative elements in us, we just have to be careful that we don't become extreme.

If your parents were money grubbing bastards who paid minimum wages to people who did hard and dirty work for them, then you will probably be the same despite the expensive education. Party politics is our enemy, not politics as such. I would prefer a good man (or woman) to either a liberal, socialist, conservative or neo-fascist; a person who does the right thing, not the self promoting choice.

Some people would like to separate ethics and morality from politics, which they assume is pragmatic. It is good that people can actually articulate their views in this forum, makes a change from the sychophantic drivel in other posts.

This could be a thread all by itself- so let me just say that if done right, government IS us.

    Yeah. I agree.

Yeah, I agree. There are things that no one is ever in control over.

There are reasons behind why people agree to disagree. There are things about peeps and situations of this world I will never really understand. I leave it alone.

We all are here together. And in the long run, all of the bickering and arguing will not make a difference.

Arguing/debating...there is a lot of that in politics. That goes with the territory. Everyone is proving a case.

Stop believing in Government, and start believing in each other.

I would say "Start understanding U.S. Government better...and you can understand why American people aren't getting it."

Our government does NOT respect its people that fund it. Some institutions in government...American people can't just go visit them to see how our tax dollars are being put to work. But the U.S. Government has carte blanche to the American republic purse. Americans don't have the slightest bit of authority over that. And you can see why Americans only get a scintilla of truth from our Government. Yeah, our government should be truthful...but hey...if we REALLY were told the entire truth...we probably wished that we never asked.

I've never considered agreement on issues like politics or religion to be a prerequisite for friendship. While it's comforting to get confirmation from another of certain beliefs, it's actually much more interesting to consider alternative viewpoints. Final agreement is hardly a desirable goal: it's the interchange that makes it all so fascinating.

But something to keep in mind (and this is not directed at the OP at all, nor any one member specifically): the fascination can dry up really quickly if an individual expresses him/herself poorly, whether through poor grammar/spelling/formatting (including some really obnoxious fonts) or through irrational, overly-emotive posts that lack fact(s) and/or corresponding documenting links to justify an opinion. This is especially true in this forum, though is a good rule to follow everywhere.

Off-the-cuff opinions posted without forethought and reflection, or based on conjecture rather than knowledge or experience, have every right to be ridiculed, especially when written in a slap-dash style. If you want to contribute something meaningful, then it should be presented with care.
