From what you have just written, i cant see why it would be annoying. sounds pretty amazing, minus the religious parents.

Response: Yeah, but that's the thing. Living with them was kind of like living in a cult. It was lots of church, only spending time with people from the same church, being expected to buy in...JOYOUSLY...
The frustration is that in many ways it was amazing, or could have been without the oppressive religious expectations that my father still tries to impose decades later.
In a manner similar to some in the UK, I was sent (allowed to get away) to school when I was fourteen and was never homesick, not for a minute. All I felt was relief.
None of this is to say I had a horrible childhood. They loved and took care of me. I was not abused or neglected. I had a good education and was able to travel quite a bit, sometimes on my own. It was more like a poor fit, like shoes that pinch everytime you try to move. It is telling, it seems to me, that my fond memories are all outside the house.

Add yours.

1. Innocence.

2. Watching great Saturday morning cartoons and eating lots of Fruity Pebbles.

Things I don't miss from my childhood.
==========================

1. Trying to make some friends and not having good ones or meeting any peeps.

2. Mom going through my stuff while I am in school. And calling it "cleaning" my room.

3. Watching my Mom and Dad argue over things. And growing up and realizing that my Mom was right on the money about those arguments.

I miss many things from childhood.

Things like summer vacation.
Nothing better then having 3 months of freedom to do whatever you wish. Summer always seems to get shorter the older you get as well.

I miss the fact that as a young kid I could get anywhere I needed to go on my bike and get there in under 20 minutes.

I miss the sound of large numbers of kids playing. That is something that is very hard to find outside of a school yard nowadays.

Children no longer seem to play outside in large groups.
Nowdays, if there are more then 3 or 4 kids over the age of about 10 gathered together the police will be called and the kids get harassed until they go home. I have seen it happen more than once. When did adults start to become so afraid of kids?

I miss the fact that the simplest things used to entertain for hours.
Things like playing with bugs, or climbing trees or playing on the swingset.

Most of all, I miss the lack of worries and responsibilities.
As a kid there were no cars to get fixed, no bills to pay, no worrying about anything really.

That all being said. I absolutely would not want to be a kid again in this day. Maybe just maybe I would consider it. But only if it was back in the time I grew up in the first place.

ok, I’m dating myself here

drive-in movies

walking alone to the library late at night

the way the air feels just before a storm

cliff -hangers at the local movie theater ...how was Flash Gordon going to save the world

the taste of a fresh warm peach off our trees

No you are not dating yourself too much. As cheesy as this song is it really sort of sums up my high school years!

them sheep ain't nothin' but a bunch o' liars!
OK it's all about you now, but could you go back and look at the two youtube links I've provided that actually have some relevance to this thread? Do you know how difficult it is to have a B-movie life and have to live in the real world?

Nobody as thoroughly excellent as you ever had a B-movie life. No common man was ever as well-loved.

Saturday cartoons were great! Also, when I was a kid they had some live-action kids' shows on Saturdays that were good too, like Land of the Lost and Shazam! (although if I watched them now I'd probably find them really cheesy...) And I'd eat Cocoa Pebbles instead. (I STILL like Cocoa Pebbles! :biggrin1:)

I totally understand about trying to make friends and not having good ones! That was the story of my life all through childhood. Part of it was that the boys did all the fun stuff but wouldn't play with girls, and the other girls bored me out of my mind!

I do miss not having the money worries like I have now though.

I watched SHAZAM and ISIS. I also watched Scooby Doo. The Banana Bunch. Pink Panther. SPACE:1999. The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner show.

I always had my Fruity Pebbles cereal. :biggrin1: I tried COCOA PEBBLES then. I didn't like it...but I guess the flavor formula changed since then...I kinda liked it when I had some at a friend's house a few years ago.

I totally understand about trying to make friends and not having good ones! That was the story of my life all through childhood. Part of it was that the boys did all the fun stuff but wouldn't play with girls, and the other girls bored me out of my mind!

When I was a kid, I remember selling a bunch of greeting card sets door-to-door to buy my own Dungeons and Dragons starter set. And the kids who played D&D really ostracized me. And there I was alone...trying to learn D&D by myself. :frown1: I don't miss that part of my life either.

I do miss not having the money worries like I have now though.

I also miss the lunches at school. The lunches were really good in public school. I even liked it when my Mom made my lunch for school as a kid once in a while. I also miss the school field trips and we would have cool bag lunches or box lunches.

I would've liked to have had some field trips in college. All we learned in college in my field was theory and not so much real-life stuff.

thankfully i have a 3 yr. old niece. she gives me the excuse to do kiddie things i wouldn't be able to do on my own, like ordering kids meals at restaurants and being able to cut in front of the line in the ladies room.

other things i miss from my childhood are...

playing tag, hide and seek, freeze tag, kickball, and handball.

learning how to ride a bike and rollerskate.

hand games, like "slide" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo8YlZlJHr0).

new crayons, coloring books, paint, markers, and coloring pencils.

making crafts and art projects.

books and songs, like "green eggs and ham" and "the wheels on the bus."

blowing bubbles and picking flowers.

going to the park and running around on the playground.

receiving presents instead of giving them :biggrin1:

looking forward to my birthday (and saying i'm 8-and-a-HALF, i'll be 9 soon!).

going to the beach and not worrying how i look in a bathing suit.

always being able to find clothes that fit right.

not having my period.

paying child admission instead of adult admission where ever i went.

the first day of school and making new friends.

field trips to the zoo and the museum.

saturday morning cartoons and tv shows, like tom and jerry, saved by the bell, and the (original) power rangers!!!

but most of all i especially miss riding bikes and eating pizza with my dad every saturday. we hardly spend time together anymore and i would love to be able to do that again.
