Democrats appear headed straight to court for Trump's tax returns - POLITICO
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/07/trump-tax-returns-court-1415922

and, Trump was LYING??? No shit!

Trump Was Lying About Carrier Task Force Deployment to Iran. Big Surprise.

"... a few days ago Trump trotted out John Bolton to threaten Iran, saying the deployment was meant "to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime that any attack on United States interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force.”

Of course that turns out to be utter nonsense as the deployment was planned months ago.

“The Abraham Lincoln Strike Group was planned to deploy for some time now,” Richardson told the SeaAirSpace conference. He touted the Lincoln’s new route to the Gulf as an example of “dynamic force employment,” a new Navy tactic that is meant to surprise potential adversaries by having US ships show up off their coastlines without warning.

He didn’t explain how a White House press release is an example of tactical surprise.”

In right wing Bizarro world, a billion dollar loss is "pretty impressive."

Fox & Friends hosts defend Trump’s $1 billion loss: “Wow, that's pretty impressive.”

And when Trump is gone we will still have Foxy News misleading the rubes. And the Republican Party still running the Southern Strategy the expanded version to include Mexicans and Latinos now. Trump created the expanded version to remarkable success. Caught Lindsey and McConnell off guard but they quickly fell in line.

The point is Trump's losses seem to suggest that he has never been a successful business man - ever. It does also suggest that he is money laundering and may have been doing so for years. According to the reports it makes him the biggest loser in IRS history, blowing up the idea that he builds wealth and success. That was kind of his main credential for running for president. This is going to get real interesting.

Well, he lost 1 billion dollars of other people's money (lenders / investors) and then claimed those losses as his own personal losses to avoid paying taxes.

In that regard, he is a "good" businessman, just of the super sleazy quasi-legal scam artist variety.

It's the kind of business practice which does work out well for Trump, but works out poorly for the suckers who sign on with him.

So, that's not the way it works. When an entity loses money, that loss (for tax purposes) is "distributed" to equity holders (in a Form K-1 for example in the case of an LLC) and those equity holders deduct the loss from either their entity or personal taxes.

For debt holders, discharged debt is deducted as a loss as well (with the caveat that this gets complex too).

Trump would have been limited in deduction to his basis (ie the amount he invested).

Have experienced all of the above personally - unfortunately. Invest and profit, K-1 to add to tax bill. Invest and lose, negative K-1 to decrease tax bill. Loan and lose, write off as bad debt.

As an aside, forgiven debt can create an additional tax liability for the borrower if the lender issues them a Form 1099 for the portion written off.

These incremental tactics add up to an autocratic and fascist regime.

For the past 21 years, I have had the high privilege of holding a White House press pass, a magical ticket that gives the bearer a front-row seat to history.

I was in the White House the night Bill Clinton admitted his affair with Monica Lewinsky, and the day he was impeached. I was there on Sept. 11, 2001, and the fearful days thereafter, when we were trained to use escape hoods. I watched George W. Bush make the case for the Iraq War and Barack Obama pitch his remedies for the market crash. There, too, I have witnessed the carnival-like briefings and high histrionics of Donald Trump’s presidency.

But no more. The White House eliminated most briefings and severely restricted access to official events. And this week came the coup de grace: After covering four presidents, I received an email informing me that Trump’s press office had revoked my White House credential.

I’m not the only one. I was part of a mass purge of “hard pass” holders after the White House implemented a new standard that designated as unqualified almost the entire White House press corps, including all seven of The Post’s White House correspondents. White House officials then chose which journalists would be granted “exceptions.” It did this over objections from news organizations and the White House Correspondents’ Association.

==

I’m not looking for pity. Trump’s elimination of briefings and other changes have devalued White House coverage anyway. But there’s something wrong with a president having the power to decide which journalists can cover him.

The White House revoked my press pass. It’s not just me — it’s curtailing access for all journalists.
- Attacking the Press
- Isolating your administration from answering questions
- Refusing democratic oversight

Right out of the Putin Playbook for Dictators, and that is just in the last hour.

TLDR but impeachment is the remedy.

Or three branches of government that have ceased to function and are being manipulated by a criminal out-of-control President.

"If we work our butts off to make sure that we take back all three chambers of Congress - Uh, rather all three chambers of government: the presidency, the Senate, and the House," Ocasio-Cortez said..."

How is the President manipulating the House? If they believe that he colluded with the Russians, covered it up, lied about it and interfered with the subsequent investigation, how can they reach any conclusion other than impeachment as the remedy?

One thing common to all fascists, authoritarians, and dictators is their hated of a free press.

Make no mistake about it, when Trump calls the news media "the enemy of the people" what he REALLY means is that they are the enemy of his OWN LIES and DECEIT.

So it comes as NO surprise that Trump would attempt to further limit their ACCESS:

White House Rescinds Some Press Passes As Journalists Slam New Attack On Media | HuffPost
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/whit...ss-washington-post_n_5cd39f4be4b0db2524b5ba95
"The Trump administration has begun enforcing new rules that severely limit the number of journalists given press passes that afford them easier access to the White House, according to reporters at The Washington Post.

Dana Milbank, a columnist at the Post who has held a White House press pass for 21 years, wrote Wednesday that his had been revoked as part of a “mass purge” among the greater press corps.

“Trump’s elimination of briefings and other changes have devalued White House coverage anyway. But there’s something wrong with a president having the power to decide which journalists can cover him,” Milbank wrote.

“Now, virtually the entire White House press corps is credentialed under ‘exceptions,’ which means, in a sense, that they all serve at the pleasure of press secretary Sarah Sanders because they all fail to meet credentialing requirements.”"

Next time a Trumpster yells fake news. Remind them.

President Trump has finally proved, beyond any doubt, that there is such a thing as #FakeNews.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the media conspired to perpetrate a vast fraud on the American people. So-called journalists and their complicit editors colluded — yes, that’s the word — to convince an unwitting public that Trump was a spectacularly successful businessman.

The scale of the ink-fueled myth has been exposed at last, thanks to 10 years’ worth of his tax information obtained by the New York Times, which revealed Trump’s enterprises were flopping on an epic scale.

===

His backup singers at “Fox & Friends” chimed in, noting that piling up 10 digits’ worth of losses was a testament to Trump’s financial genius. “If anything, you read this and you’re like ‘Wow, it’s pretty impressive, all the things that he’s done in his life,’ ” co-host Ainsley Earhardt said in wonder. “It’s beyond what most of us could ever achieve.”

During the final debate of the 2016 campaign, Trump vowed to “run our country the way I’ve run my company.” As we are learning, that is one campaign promise he’s on track to keep.

A real story of fake news: Trump’s wealth

Too bad all didn't recognize the Bigot-In-Chief and skipped out.

BALTIMORE — It was an iconic baseball celebration: Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vázquez leaping into the arms of pitcher Chris Sale after the final out of the World Series last fall, teammates in perfect unison.

But on Thursday, the star players were far apart. Sale was at the White House, where the 2018 champions were honored by President Trump. Vázquez was home in Boston, one of at least 10 players, all Latino or African American, who elected not to attend.

“It’s personal, bro,” Vázquez, who is from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, said in a brief interview before a game against the Baltimore Orioles here Wednesday. Of the more than a dozen players who attended, only one — outfielder J.D. Martinez, who is of Cuban descent — is a minority. Manager Alex Cora, who is from Puerto Rico, also was absent.

‘The moment we’re in’: United as baseball champions, Boston Red Sox are divided by Trump
