I just did an experiment to see how much easier using a strip of tape makes it to get these photos. It makes it VASTLY easier! What is more, it makes it possible for me to get a ninth quarter on there, which I don't think I can do without the tape.
So I think that photos made with tape holding the coins should not have the same status as ones without tape.

Perhaps. The ones with tape are more accurate; there's no overlapping or empty spaces between coins, and less loss of erection. That is to say, they are no less legitimate for using tape.
I agree, the tape allows for the "cliffhanger effect" which could not be duplicated without. Maybe their names should have an asterisk with "tape enhanced/assisted" tainting their records. lol
