and the GOP house of Representatives, reports CNN, is having a conniption fit. With ALL Democratic senators joining 13 Republicans, the senate has done what it was predicted it could or would not do this year.
NOW it is John Boehner's turn on the griddle, desperately trying to show he is even relevant to anything that happens in DC, while at the same time trying to hang on to his seat in Cincinnati, Ohio.
should be a summer of fun watching the good ol' boys from the tea party southern strongholds looking for any and every euphemism to describe people like me: LATINOS.
that is , describe them without revealing their racist, homophobic, misogynist, Bible misquoting selves. should make for great summer viewing on CSPAN!!!

doesnt seem you got many takers here. The UK news, in as much as it mention it at all, comes at it from the Irish angle. Traditionally a lot of Irish hve also emigrated to the US, and some want to continue.

How does the US really feel about immigration? Compared to the UK it is vast and underpopulated.

Dandelion, the majority of Americans want immigrants to become legal citizens and favor the new immigration bill.
yes, we still have vast open spaces, but there are few jobs there. also, in many of these vast open spaces the weather is less than hospitable, and many older, native born whites are unwilling to share ANY local resources with ANYONE who doesnt look, talk, act and vote like them: GOP (aka Republican).
while the eastern half of North Dakota is filling up with immigrants in the oil shale boom, some parts of the nation, notably the southern half of Illinois, Kentucky and West Virginia , are losing immigrants due to a poor economy in those areas. the coal industry is slowly being eliminated due to their huge contribution to global warming, and there is shrinking economic development in those areas.
immigrants from Asia and Latin America often seek out communities with fellow recent immigrants, such as California, New York, Florida and Texas.
i am proud of how my community of Santa Cruz CA treats our immigrants: with respect.
My grandparents on my father's side escaped the Mexican Revolution in years before world war one to come from the Mexican state of Sonora to the newly entered US state of New Mexico. they were undocumented. they stayed, they worked hard at menial labor. they had children. they were devout members of the local Catholic church. i am proud of them. Yes, i am half Mexican and i am proud. we celebrate Cinco de Mayo every May 5 as well as the fourth of JULY (today).
i hope this helps clarify the issue for you. thanks for asking, Dandelion.

Here's guessing you find illegal immigrant (won't even say alien because even I find that unnecessarily harsh, while not at all incorrect) an example of racism, homophobia, misogyny?

Get a grip Cruz. With age is supposed to come wisdom. You're hurting all sorts of clichés when you post.

Eric, i am sorry that because of your youth you are unable to see the connection. nonetheles, yes, with my age and experience that YOU LACK i do see the connection. you can connect the events by simply reading the news and doing some THINKING about what you read.
