The first two paragraphs of a BBC article about media coverage of this case are of no little interest in terms of putting things into perspective from a statistical standpoint:

Few crime stories in the past decade have gripped America as much as the murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, who was found beaten and strangled in her home the day after Christmas in 1996.

That year more than 800 children were murdered in America
but without attracting the same kind of intensive scrutiny.

The whole Ramsey thing is beyond annoying.

Who cares? It's American tabloid media at its very worst.

The whole thing has a kitsch quality to it that would make for a crappy movie of the week.

It was actually two movies of the week. I didn't see them but I remember them making fun of clips on The Daily Show. Which is, after all, celebrating 10 Fucking Years as of last month. Though during the Jon Bonet thing, Craig Kilborn was still hosting the show.

Why has this man managed to capture world-wide media attention? From his odd attire habits of pulling his trousers to a location just below his chest to an almost lisping press conference that left the Bangkok chief of police in gales of laughter, John Mark Karr leaves no doubt that he marches to the beat of a different drummer. This morning CNN had some famed forensic psychologist "Ludwig von Stoop" who looked like Sigmund Freud's twin brother giving his expert analysis of the personality of the transient toddler teacher.

His expert conclusion: http://www.ufoseries.com/barry/fireball.mp3

This guy is guilty of a lot of things but killing JonBenet isn't one of them.

Sorry. As I was typing this post Fox News just dredged up old ten year-old footage of JonBenet; the one where she is the six year-old Marilyn Monroe dancing to the song, "I Want To Be Loved By You...(poo-poo pee do)" Sick.

I like what alex8 posted in the other thread where the British press says about the 800 other child deaths in the US that year. What's the biggie on this one?

I have a sense that half of the middle class population in Texas puts their kids into that shit and lives their own existence vicariously through them. Sick? Yes.

Unusual? No.

This guy they "caught"....good grief. Fucked up as all hell. He was supposed to be this expert on the case in his college class yet gives all this wrong information. What does everyone make of this?

He confesses to a crime, makes obvious mistakes, to what ...make it look like he could never had done it? Enjoys the media for sure...this way he doen't get pinned for this case but gets the 15 minutes of fame anyway?

PLUS..the news keeps calling him a former teacher. He subbed in a class for two days total and was fired...why call him a teacher...oh yeah, becasue that makes it all the more shocking. Not watching TV for a spell...

There's also to consider that he wrote a rather obsessive love letter to Jonbenet.

Plus he had fled the USA on charges of child porn, and has had two child brides in the past.
sorry, with all this I can't subscribe to the fact yet that he might not be a suspect.

Guilty or not, I think you're spot on about this flake, Karr, and his 15 mins of fame. It reminds me of the media circus surrouding the death of John Lennon, and his killer, Mark Chapman, another obvious loser who was seeking attention.

ah well thirteenbyseven-

No matter how not guilty the odd little man is it sure makes swell press huh? The whole thing is media driven and it's gross.

But I say it's tax dollars well spent!! Think of the "human interest" of it all as we think "there but for the grace of God go I..." :33:

Can we have the dna results already????????????????????????

Let's put this puppy to sleep or let him free to live his odd life.

I think he's staring a bit too curiously at the standing guy's crotch in that photo :33:

I live for the day when the first feature on the local or national news does not begin with "JonBenet Ramsey suspec John Mark Karr...."

i feel for this child yeah because she died in tragic circumstances also because she was obviously being driven by adults to fulfill "their" dreams. why can,t we let children be children, also agree with many comments, we in britain have what we call gutter press, thats why i dont buy newspapers anymore. sensationalism sells papers.

I too have felt for this child, she never had a chance to actually be a child, quite sad, it has always bothered me that some parents want to fulfill their dreams through their kids, whether it be sports, school, or whatever, they don't want to accept the fact that their kids have other interests instead.

and for those parents who accept their kids for who they are and encourage them, hats off to you.

I never thought that the Ramseys were guilty of killing thier own child, but I have always thought that they were guilty of neglect, neglecting to let her be a little innocent child, I have always been disgusted with parents who want their kids to be dressed like little whores dancing around and trying to be sexy, to me that is just plain sick.

I too never thought that not greiving in public was a bad thing, that doesn't make anyone guilty, sure there are those who are strong up front and have delayed reaction later being the closed door, each person is different.

Trust me vindicari we have gutter press here too.

It simply pretends to be mainstream. If that were not the case there'd be nothing like the JonBenét Ramsey (ugh that first name..) case for everyone to dive into.

What bothers me most is that everyone is so fucking fascinated with some kid from a beauty pageant who lived in a brick house in Boulder, who was savagely murdered, and then they persecuted the parents forever and ever amen.

Then all hell broke lose.

I don't "get" the fascination with the thing.

And as for the "let kids be kids thing" .. as long as parents have children in an effort to relive their lives vicariously through those children there will be 6 year old "beauty gueens".

JonBenet suspect charges dropped

A man arrested in Thailand and accused of killing US child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey will not be charged with the murder, prosecutors say.

The case against John Mark Karr was dropped after forensic tests found that his DNA did not match that discovered at the scene of the crime.
Mr Karr, 41, was arrested in Thailand two weeks ago and had been due to appear in court on Monday.

He has said he was there when the girl died, but her death was an accident.

But outside court in Colorado on Monday public defender Seth Temin said in a statement: "The warrant on Mr Karr has been dropped by the district attorney. They're not proceeding with this case.

"We're deeply distressed by the fact that they took this man and dragged him here from Bangkok, Thailand with no forensic evidence confirming the allegations against him, and no independent factors leading to a presumption that he did anything wrong."

However, Mr Karr is still in police custody, following a request that he be taken to California to face child pornography charges dating back to 2001.

'No forensic evidence'

Mr Karr's arrest sparked hopes in the United States that one of the most infamous crimes of recent years might finally be solved.

The BBC's John Kay in California says there has been hysterical media coverage of developments since he was arrested in Bangkok.

Why am I not surprised?? This is such nonsence and SUCH a waste of the public's time.

Blame the news media for whipping this into such a frenzy.
