It was move-in day at University Hall. Whod have thought the first day of college would have been so intimidatingbut not for Joshua Hillman. He had connections. Or rather, his parents did: Joshua was allowed to move in at the beginning of the weekend. He was even given access to the special parking spaces in front of University Hall. The ones normally reserved for senior students and faculty.
Where do you want me to put these sweat pants, and the rest of your underwear, Josh? a young girl asked. Lindsay and Josh were boyfriend and girlfriend. Theyd been high school sweethearts. They met during Joshs senior yearshe was a junior. Hed been playing varsity football that year and she was on the pep squad. Theyd hit it off immediately.
When Josh was admitted to University College, Lindsay thought that would be the end of their relationship. Once hed gotten a taste of the freedom and the girls of college life, while she had her senior year of high school left (even at 18), shed be left behind for sure. But that didnt happen and Lindsay had been coming up to the University to visit Josh as much as she wanted. Sometimes it seemed like she lived there with him. Just fold them and put them in the bottom drawer of my dresser, he said. It was great to have connections.
Lindsay finished putting away all of the clothes and items shed brought up to the door. It was nice of your parents to come up with you over the beginning of the weekend and get you moved in, Lindsay said. Today would have been a real hassle, with everyone trying to move in at once. She stacked the suitcases by the door and broke down some cardboard boxes for the trash.
To show his appreciation, Josh got up out of his bed and grabbed up Lindsay in his arms. He placed his lips upon hers and carried her to his bed. They made out most of the morning.
Everything seemed warm and fuzzy as Josh began to stir. He and Lindsay must have fallen asleep. What time was it, he thought. He still hadnt opened his eyes. He didnt want to leave this moment, laying on his warm bed with Lindsay cuddled up next to himher head resting on his chest and her breath warm and comforting along his skin. Coming to a little more, Josh looked up to see staring at him a small woman. She sat in the plush, suede lounge chair that was across from his bed. He noticed the attractiveness of her olive skin complexion and the silky blackness of her hair. Shiny and wet looking, like shed just gotten out of the shower.
Hello? Josh said in confusion. Why is there a strange woman staring at me had been his first thought. It couldnt have been more awkward.
Um hello, said a voice just coming into Joshs hazy peripheral vision. Still groggy from his nap, Josh looked over to see a medium built boy. He was about as tall as Josh was and kept his haircut tight to his head. He had the same olive skin complexion as the woman in the chair who was still so rudely staring at him. The look on her face was the kind of look only a mother could give. Hello? the boy said again. Yeah, Im Isaiah.
Josh looked perplexed as Isaiah set down his things by the dresser, by the wall.
It looks like were going to be roommates, said Isaiah, nervously.
