Thin women look better clothed, larger women look better naked?

I once told a woman I dated that she had nice curves. Never again, her first knee jerk reaction was to ask me:

"So, you are telling me that I am fat ?"

How did that go from a nice curvacious body to telling her she was fat. She was 5'8" and about 130-135 lbs (maybe even 140 during certain seasons) as a frame of reference.
