I was just listening to White Nights by Psychic TV (by the way, I think that song is one of the best Christmas songs ever written - if not the best). Anyway, towards the end of the song Genisis P. Orridge sings: "Santa Claus is checking his list, going over it twice, seeing who is naughty and who is nice" over a sample of a machine gun being fired, suggesting that Santa will shoot the kids who aren't nice.

I remember when I was a young teenager, I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I don't think I totally realized until today how lame it really is.

Let me hear some of the things you used to think were cool, but have come to realize in reality are kinda lame. It doesn't have to be anything you hate by now, or even have a dislike for. It can just as well be something you still like very much, even though you acknowledge its lameness.

Oh, I just remembered. The same goes for just about any song lyric by Tool. Stinkfist is the best example. Now this is something I have really grown to dislike over the years:

"Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.
Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand."

Oh my God... I wonder how many times these words have been come out of my mouth: "Hey, did you know that Stinkfist can be interpreted to be about fisting...?"

Well, duh...

Ironically enough, Tool expressed the way I feel about this lyric in the exact same song:

"Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be
Desensitized to everything
What became of subtlety?"

Not that they are lame but there were a few things in life that I had built up to be so important and yet when I actually experienced them I was a bit surprised that it was not all that I thought it would be like... sitting at the adult table during Thanksgiving... going to Las Vegas for the first time... having lunch in the teachers' lounge... waiting backstage during a performance... going to The Cannes Film Festival ... and sadly meeting my childhood hero as an adult to find out he was only human and had flaws too!

ooh I like this thread! Okay
Well firstly I have never thought anything I ever did was that cool

but

If I am owning up to stuff I did regardless.....hmmmm

I used to have my tongue pierced...
I can still put it in today.....
I had the piercer put it in a bit further back than normal so that my parents wouldn't be able to see it when I talked, since I got it done at age 14 by a friend who worked as a tattoo artist/piercer

and it worked, the only reason Mom found out was when I needed to get a back tooth fixed because my dumb ass had chipped it with the tongue bar lol
facepalm

OH and this is very cringe-worthy
Me and my friends used to say "That's sooo gay" for things we thought were lame
Now I'm not politically correct by any means but looking back that was very uncool
Not to mention a bit ironic given the fact that I'm bisexual

Oh, to think of all the unspeakably lame phrases I have used over time. Even thinking about it is a bad road to take. Me and some friends were trying to count the lame phrases and expressions that we have overused during the years. Needless to say, it's far too many.

Since I've lived my entire young life in Denmark, It wouldn't really make much sense to write them down in this thread, since no one would be able to understand them. Count yourself lucky.

First thing that comes to mind. I had a tail, yes a braided tail adorned with a gold tube that my dad made me. If it wasn't braided it was probably 10 inches long, braided around 7.
When I finally cut it off, for work reasons, I put it in a box. Damn I believe I still have it somewhere.....

I wouldn't exactly say I thought they were cool, but as a kid I laughed like crazy at Rocky and Bullwinkle. I watch them again a couple years ago and couldn't find much funny about the show. It was lame and kind of offensive to me as an adult.

I use to think trainers were cool. Wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of sport shoes now unless I'm doing some sports.

According to Urban Dictionary: rat tail
1. rat tail
a rather nappy type of mullet carefully trimed so that the hair in the middle at the base of the skull forms a single, disturbingly long, strand resembling that of a rat's tail; often spotted on young ratty looking children whose parents don't know any better than to get them a decent haircut
That redneck over there has a nasty rat tail.
Woah, check out the rat tail at three o'clock.

If I'm not mistaken.

Dport
Vegas can be pretty fucking lame.

You know, I've never been, but it's always seemed like the kind of atmosphere that would be fun for maybe a weekend, but after that, it would just be really fuckin weird. I would probably start to dream in neon and develop a gambling addiction

It seemed like everyone who was anyone thought Tamagotchi (sp?) pets were cool when I was little. I guess that's why I was never invited to the cools kids lunch table.

This reminds me... I used to wear my hair a little like Phil Anselmo does in this picture:

Well, not a little like Phil Anselmo does in the picture. Exactly like Phil Anselmo does the picture. And I was never a Pantera fan at all. Very 90's indeed...

If I'm not mistaken.

Mine was not a mullet. Top of head and sides looked like a normal dudes haircut. I just had the tail thingy going.
