I went to Experian's website today to learn my FICO credit score. I usually just get my credit score from Credit Karma, but as we all know they don't give you the FICO score but some other credit score that isn't as commonly used. They also don't tell you your Experian score at all. So I decided to go to Experian directly to get my FICO score. On the website they said I could get my FICO score for only 1 dollar. Well to make a short story even shorter, as I was signing up to get my score, I noticed that the 1 dollar fee they were advertising seemed to offer a whole lot of benefits. Way more benefits than what you would normally expect for just paying 1 dollar. So I decided to look up this service on Google and see if this was some kind of scam and you won't believe this, it was scam. Experian advertises a 1 dollar fee to get your FICO score, but then they secretly sign you up for recurring payments of $27 a month for their stupid credit monitoring service.

I, of course, didn't give them any credit card information or anything like that once I learned about the scam, but I am angry about this. Why do we let these companies do whatever they want? It's bad enough that this company, that I have never interacted with personally before today, is somehow allowed to keep a file on me and give me score that will affect everything from my ability to buy a car or rent an apartment, but I have to pay to get this life altering score and when I try to pay they still try and screw me over.

I think Bernie Sanders is OK as person, but I think most of policies are either doomed to failure or just bad ideas. But you know what? If he is president I think he will reign in these fucking financial companies. The banks. The credit card companies. The credit score companies. They will all get what is coming to them if Bernie Sanders wins the nomination and election. I honestly believe that and it is the only reason why I want for him to win.

IMO you left out the operative word whic is "try" as he will TRY---

HE WOULD fail and that is the REAL POINT

The SB is is not that far in the rear view mirror so lets use a football analogy

Assuming a good defense, 85 Bears defense

You can dink and dunk,, throw nothing but screens that almost always get caught for 6 or 8 yards at a time and win by 49 or you can throw nothing but 50 plus yard "hail mary's" almost none of which get caught and some get intercepted, possibly run back for a pick 6 which is at best nothing but three and outs putting Peyton Manning back on the field chewing up your now exhausted defense 5 yards at a time and end up loosing 56 to 7

Bernie wants to do nothing but drop back and go for it all every down

AND lose

Pretty sure Bill Walsh would have won that SB !!

I sure hope you understand a president is not king and without the legislative and judicial branches nothing will happen. Zero.

Here we are years later Obama’s signature achievement, ACA, is ready to get chopped by the Supreme Court. And thanks to Justice Kennedy’s retirement and Trump/McConnell installing their men on the Supreme Court they just might have the votes to do it.

I can't speak to how successful Sanders will be, but at least he will try. Biden, who I will vote for if he wins the nomination, will not put up much of a fight against the financial industry. In fact I doubt he will put up any kind of fight at all.

I have a lot of issues with Bernie, but at the very least his heart is in the right place and I can be reasonably certain he will really try to help the working class.

He will try as the House democrats are doing now sending bill after bill to the Senate where Mitch McConnell trashes them all. Doesn't even bother to do jack shit with them. It's going to take a lot more than one man.

'GRIM REAPER' MITCH MCCONNELL ADMITS THERE ARE 395 HOUSE BILLS SITTING IN THE SENATE: 'WE'RE NOT GOING TO PASS THOSE'

That is a problem, but it will be an issue with any Democrat. In the end I would rather have someone willing to try and fix things than someone who won't do anything.

Free Credit Reports

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the nationwide credit reporting companies — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months.

I've used this before and it works fine. You don't need to elect Bernie Sanders to see your credit score.

Interestingly enough they talk about that and the same problem that I ran into on another section of that site. Please see the below link.

Mother of heaven, you can’t protect yourself from scammers? You need mommy to do it?

I just want to add that you can't avoid Experian or Equifax or Transunion. They have your information and you will interact with them directly or indirectly at various times in your life, usually without your knowledge. Is it really too much to expect the most basic amount of business ethics out of any company, let alone one that you will be required to deal with in your life?

I'm with you on this. If you want to cement your support for Sanders in these regards then I would recommend looking up Joe Biden's history with the credit card industry.

It's so typical, the specific people who would defend the deceptive and manipulative practices of corporations and blame the individual consumer for being deceived and manipulated.

You don't think in those 365 bills trashed by Moscow Mitch someone isn’t trying to fix things? I'm sure they are.

I'm well aware, but I didn't want the thread to turn into a Bernie vs Biden thing, so I left it out.

How to check your credit score
Learn how to access, interpret, and use your credit report.

Your credit report tells potential lenders how responsible you’ve been with credit in the past. Lenders can legally request this document to assess how risky it is to lend to you.

couple_home_working-on-computer_187x117.jpg
What can lenders see?

Your credit history lists the details of your past and current credit accounts. It also documents each time you or a lender requests your credit report, as well as instances where your accounts have been passed on to a collection agency. Financial issues that are part of the public record, such as bankruptcies and foreclosures, are included, too.

Your credit score is a number that represents your creditworthiness. Scores can also be referred to as credit ratings, and sometimes as FICO® Scores, created by Fair Isaac Corporation, and typically range from 300 to 850.

What does a credit score mean?
A credit score is a numeric representation of your credit history. It is comprised of five components that have associated weights: AnnualCreditReport.comOpens Dialog or call toll-free 1-877-322-8228. You’re also entitled to see your credit report within 60 days of being denied credit, or if you are on welfare, unemployed, or your report is inaccurate.

It’s smart to request a credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies and to review them carefully, as each one may contain inconsistent information or inaccuracies. If you spot an error, request a dispute form from the agency within 30 days of receiving your report.

Responsibility is key
Above all, it’s important to use credit responsibly. A good credit history and credit score can be the difference between being able to purchase a home, buy a car, or pay for college.Proactively managing your credit report is a great way to stay in control of your finances, and ultimately achieve your goals.

Credit Management,

Credit Scores

I want to say that at least two of the credit cards I carry offer free access to my credit score(s), once every 30 days. Do any of your credit cards offer such service or benefit?

So you think it is fine for companies to sign you up for expensive products under false pretenses? Do you really think that is a good way for markets to operate?

I don't really know who to blame for this...
1. Do I blame the consumer for not reading and understanding terms?
2. Do I blame the seller for deception?
3. Do I blame the education system for not teaching personal economics in school? (And outside of balancing a checkbook, I don't think I learned much more than that in school.)

I would LIKE to see that no seller can advertise a price unless it's the all-in one-off price, all taxes and fees included. The cable / satellite companes come to mind. Sign up for your TV package at $59.99 per month!! And that looks like a great price until you realize they need to add: 1) Broadcast TV Surcharge, 2) RSN surcharge, 3) Network Enhancement Fee, 4) Set Box Box Rental, 5) Modem Rental, 6) Home Wi-Fi Fee, ... it goes on and on and on.
